Bait Cast Nets ?

Wondering if anyone has used these for getting minnows. I have a seine, but you need two people and it takes up a lot of room in the rod locker. Seems this would be handy to keep in the boat for those roaming shiners I keep running into this spring.

I have used those square nets that have the steel poles running diagonally across from corner to corner. The rope is tied in the center where the poles cross. It works very well in creeks/rivers where you can cast the net, and then pull staight up from a bank, culvert, or bridge.

Yeah, I have used those too, but the casting style, where you throw out like a 10 foot circle of net was the kind I was looking at.

i was thinking about buying one also. i think they usually run like $15-$25. i've seen them on the saltwater fishing shows and they seem to work pretty well.

I have a cast net and it is a pain to throw. I have practiced with it and still is tough. If you plan on getting one plan on spending some time learning how to throw it. I am looking into just getting a dip net. I think it will make life a lot easier.

I'm not 100% certain but I think cast nets are a no-no in Minnesota.

Fisky is right, not legal. Due to the walleye fry being surface oriented for the first two months of life. Seine it is.

Here is what the DNR says:

Licensed anglers may take minnows or leeches, for their own use with dipnets, traps, or seines. However the seines cannot exceed over 25 feet long, more then 148 meshes deep.....Read Pg.83 from 2005 Reg.Book
