Collar-less jigs come in handy when targeting panfish. Less strain and abuse on the plastics and you get the same weight of jig with a larger hook, which is something that can really make or break a day of fishing.

In order to get the desired action you want you have to down-size to a 1/64 or even a 1/100oz jig if you are fishing a jig with a collar, and then the hook size is down-sized as well, which can greatly hinder your hooking percentage. By using a collar-less jig you can avoid that and keep the desired weight (action) and not lose hook size (percentage). Something that is over-looked by a lot of panfish anglers but can really help your productivity on the water.

Collar-less jigs are the way to go in a variety of conditions.

Great product Scenic Tackle!

I really like the look of these for fishing finess plastics. I've liked the collorless jigs for a number of applications(even walleyes). There just seems to be fewer places to get them these days. Looks like I'll need to put in an order. laugh.gif

  • we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators

We do have the Pro Series Jigs with collars and red hooks now at Tacklecity.com.

I do have to add - Don't forget the Custom Jigs and spins Ratso's. They are dynamite crappie jigs and plastics as well. They work very well with the Scenic Tackle Crappie jigs. You get a bit heavier weight and bigger hook with a smaller profile. They are all at TacklecCity.com too.

Got mine today, great jigs!

I bought the 1/16 oz. jigs to try, and they look they'll do the trick!

Rick, great point about the Ratso's, the head is very similar to these jigs, without the eye. They come in 1/32 oz. all the way down to 1/100 oz.

Me too! Red hooks work great. Expecially when fish have seen everything. Let me know if there are some red hooked jigs coming soon. One other thing, 1/16th oz jighead with a larger hook gap would be perfect for putting on larger plastics like the Berkley 2"/3" Power Minnows or Gulp baits.

Thanks,

I just got some of the collarless jigs and they look awesome! I'm anxious to try them out on some of my favorite plastics and presentations. The paint quality on these is very good.

corey; i have been using the shrimpo/rasto/wewdgee bodies for the last year for open water fishing and have been doing very well when one needed a very small porfile. i just buy the bodies and use a standard lead head. the only problem with them is that you can't use a hook bigger than a #10 due to the small dia. of the bodies. i do open the gap some and turn the hook pt. to help with sticking the fish. but awsome baits! with the cold, fishing pressure and such i have had to resort to these several times this year to put people into fish.

I do the same thing but with the collorless jigheads. The finness plastics just do not work well with the collored style jigheads. I just put in and order last night for the 1/32 & 1/16 crappies jigs and the 1/16 pro jigs.

Jeff,

As far as color with the red hooked jigs I'd recommend chartruese, glow white, glow red, glow blue, lime green, yellow, pink and fluorescent orange.

Glow Red, Glow, Chartruese/Green and regular Pink would be my top four colors for the red hooks. 1/32oz with a size 8 or even size 10 hook (for some of the smaller plastics).

delm, Borch is right, the Custom Jigs plastics work great with collarless jigheads, that's one of the main reasons I ordered these. They are very similar to a Ratso body, but with the heavier weights. They work great by the way!

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
