Titanium leaders

Recommended Posts

I just tried some Terminater titanium leaders. I did not like the way the snap worked. It was difficult to snap on and off the lure. Anyone else have this problem? Can anyone recommend another type of titanium leaders that they like? Thanks

I won't use titanium leaders anymore.

I thought they seemed alright untill I kept breaking them.

I would have any 80# leader and the loop would break setting the hook on a weed. I also hd them cast baits off by breaking them by the ball swivel.

I use a brand that a guy from bemidji makes. I can't remeber the name.

The titianium leaders did have a few problems at first, although I have never had one fail. Even a titianium leader won't/can't last forever, check for wear, just like you would with steel leaders.

The snaps are hard to open for a reason, when it gets to easy to open, it's time to replace it. I have several that I still use for pike that are over 5 years old, I'd say I got my moneys worth.

I too have had some Titanium leaders fail as I was pulling my knot tight. The crimps would be cracked and just fall off. I have found some from Billy Finn that are great! Always keep an eye on the loops, they will wear over time. Take off the clips you don't like and replace them with the good Stay-Locked clips. Nice to use a leader that won't kink, but becareful so you don't have a failure.

the thing with titanium is that it always wants to straighten itself out, which is why in theory it makes a great leader. The problem comes in when a brass or stainless crimp is used. there is not a single crimp in the world that will hold titanium straight forever. Have seen some really cool leaders fused together by people working in the medical field with access to that kind of technology and some really nice double crimped leaders. Only know good things about those. Have also seen the terminator leaders broken in the packages due to the crimps breaking

I have been using Billy Finn's leaders since the first ones came out. They have double crimps on each end, and I have yet to have one of the snaps fail on me.

It's simply a matter of not trying to get to much use out of them. All things that are made by man will eventually fail, so it's up to you to keep an eye on all your equipment, so that it doesn't get that opportunity. grin.gif
