im wondering if its legal to plant ie alfalfa, corn, in public hunting areas for example the area i have hunted 2 years now surrounded by trees kind of like in a circle and then in the middle a patch of nothing i would like to head out and plant this area if its legal to maximize my chances of getting a deer

Planning on planting my clover and one annual blend this weekend myself. From what I have gathered and plan on doing myself your best off seeding from mid April through early june or else then waiting till fall. All though there are several things that can be planted mid summer or in fall. Do some research and you will find LOTS of info I am still reading everything I can find about food plots.

As far as planting on public land I sure would say that would be a no no. I would not do it till I contacted the DNR. I would say that you should fire them an email to check. But like I said I can't believe that would be a legal thing to do.

Yep I know but it is this weekend or else wait till Memorial weekend. Going out of the state to work for a few weeks. Got to get it down when I have time. I do plan on getting some turnips or something like that and planting them at the end of may or maybe June. Thanks for the tips jlm you have been extremly helpful through out this process.

Good luck with your planting and your out of state work! Post some pics when it all grows up, we would all like to see. Plots are very addicting. Thats not a bad thing though!

Very helpful question and responses. I was planning on going up to the 'ol hunting grounds to plant and to tear down an old deer stand that was in the way this weekend, but something came up. I will try to make up there next weekend to get it done.

Well the planting when pretty good for the most part. I ran out of time so some stuff will have to wait till Memorial weekend for seeding. I got most of the ground broke up that I wanted to. Not all of it so I might do some more in the fall and toss some oat or rye in. The seeding was going good till the gearbox in the broadcast spreader got screwed up so I will have to get a different one and finish up. The ground broke up nicely though I think everything should be good. Turned out to take more time than I though but I think it will be worth it in the long run.
