Line Question

Could the same be said for 40lb Fluorocarbon? At what point does the diameter of Fluorocarbon become more visible than extremely thin braid? Never?

The reason I ask is that I usually fish in the river where the water clarity is not a factor in choosing a line. However I do fish lakes occasionally, so if Fluorocarbon, regardless of diameter is going to be invisible, I should just have 30lb Fluorocarbon instead of 30lb power pro. It would be equally strong, but invisible to the fish.

Thanks.

HT-at times a lines visibility is not as important as other factors. I see no reason to ever use 30 lb folor in Minnesota. If you are fishing in weeds or cover a lines visibility is really not a big issue. Its really only if you are fishing a finess deep water pattern where line visibility may come into play. Fish with what works for you. For me I have rods with braid, mono, and floro and have all my bases covered!

I'm sure quite a few people will disagree but I'll say it anyway. wink.gif Rarely have I found line visibility(to the bass) to be an issue. I prefer to select fishing line based on other factors: lure action, type of cover I'm fishing, stretch, abrasion resistance, and visibility to the human eye. I almost always use bright line when flipping/pitching. It's a reaction bite. Often times watching the line is the only thing that lets me know of a strike. Just my opinion.

Superduty,

I agree 100% with you. I have found line color or profile to rarely be a determining factor in bass catchin' success.

I have seen it play a huge factor in ice fishing. My wife kicked the dump out of me two days in a row on LOW using a fluoro leader while I used a mono leader. I was too stubborn to believe it made a difference. She kept telling me it made a difference and after I switched, we were dead even.

During the dawn of fluorocarbon, I have never once thought someone won a tournament (mostly club events) I've participated in because they were using a certain line. They usually figured out something no one else did, or they just got a couple bigger bites.

Again, I say in a finesse situation with minimal cover and clear water, flourocarbon is a great choice. The other 95% of the time mono or braid are just fine.

Man, I'm starting to sound like I'm anti flourocarbon. blush.gif

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I should have clarified what I was really looking for. I was just wondering from a scientific standpoint at what point is Fluorocarbon more visible than Braid. I would find it hard to believe that 50lb FC is less visible than 2 lb braid. It was just out of curiosity of where that cutover point is. There probably is no way to really find out because the bass can't tell us. smirk.gif Just some pondering while waiting for the season to open. I'm really quite happy with the PowerPro and 20lb FC.
