Who's turn in the #6??

Recommended Posts

Marty Smith just did a story on who is going to pilot the #6 after this season and beyond. As a fan of the Blue Ovals and a big fan of Mark's, one has to wonder who is next.

I think Newman may be prospect, he isn't happy at Penske and he shows it.

He was very good wheeling a Ford too.

McMurray? He can't be bouncing off the walls about his Dodge either.

Any other guesses?

It was going to be Carl Edwards but he has his own thing going with the 99. I would like to see him in that car. Maybe they will switch numbers like Jeff Burton did at RCR.

McMurray's contract is up at the end of the year, and him and Rusty get along pretty good so maybe he'll end up there, along with Mayfield.?? I don't see Newman staying there for long either.

I guess I'd like to see McMurray there. Him and Mark are about the same size so that would make things easier too! He seems to be happy all the time, I like that.

I guess that McMurry would be a great new look for the six, but there is such a stable of younger drivers out there that I would think it will be some young driver coming up.

I think they'll hire a veteren to run a couple years until they can get his kid in that car. Matt Martin will be in that can when he turns 18!

It would be really cool to see Matt in that car. Do any of you guys remember seeing Matt in victory lane with Mark when he was really young? Always in dads arms holding up the #1 sign. Way cool.

so your thinking the friendship gig will over rule the farming system Roush has developed?

i believe with it being Rusty's last tour, that Newman will stay with Penske Racing to be the Top Dog, being there a major threat to win week in and week out.

now if they weren't competitive, then i would be inclined to reconsider.(JMO)

If the races where only two laps long Newman would have won a ton of them by now. If he can figure out that the last lap is the one that counts he could be the man. It really seams like when they qualify really well they battle a terribly loose race car for to long.

I would guess it will be a non cup driver as Jack Roush seems to have great insight on good young drivers. His stable of teams ,seems to get better every year. Its like Roush vs Hendrick for the championship, and Roush keeps getting great drivers.

They did say that don't be surprise if the next driver isn't a "Young Gun" I know the Roush Stable without Martin is very young. I just don't see Jack taking a chance to tarnish the #6 by seeing if Craven still has "it". The Roush trucks have been awesome since the series started, it is proven by the number of different drives that have had success in those rigs. Craven is going to have to do better than top 5's to get the node in the #6. He is going to have to put together at least 4 or 5 wins and be the Champ.

I still think the FM boys might have the inside scoop........NEWMAN!

Remember when it happens, you heard it here first! ha ha

i believe in time Newman will learn to save his equipment for the checkers.

looks like no one has faith in Ricky.

he's 2nd in truck series points as of now, and Carl only had a handfull of wins in that truck over the last 2 seasons, so i believe Ricky has a shot at the ride if he proves himself.

being this is the first year in nascar for the other truck driver he will probably have to spend a little more time in the truck before the cup jump.(usually 2 yrs)

but then again you just never know, imfo to look forward to.

Jack Roush will find sponsorship for the #6 team, there just too competitive to park.

I don't really know, but I do think its Craven or someone outside the organization with some experience. The Rousch development team is a little behind with Edwards moving up sooner than planned and Kyle Busch heading over to Hendrick. I think Craven has got to be the favorite at this point. I think Newman is not going anywhere, he will be top dog at Penske next year.

i think Roush was thrown a curveball with Kyle going to #25 team, but they offer him no long term options.

Carl sure did a good job after all.

it will be cool to follow the #6 team and to see who gets in the #2 car also.

Jack said that was the plan "A", but Jack said after carls victory in the 99 car, that he has changed his mind and plans(plan B).

i guess time will tell, but i aint fallin for it, unless carl really struggles the remainder of the season.(doubt it)too much talent and demand for him,(sponsorship hayday)

"Maybe", #6 Charter Ford driven by Ricky Craven.(prediction)sounds pretty good though...

I cant see Ricky in that car, at least not full time. I don't think Jack would get rid of a car, but maybe just move teams and numbers around. The 6 sure does have a heck of alot more history than the 99. Oh well, maybe Dale Jr. will get it. He needs to drive a good car... grin.gif

I would like to see JR go to a RCR car as he needs a driver for the other car.Seems that DEI has to many problems there and miight take a bit of time to get fixed.Only problem with going to RCR is everyone would want him to drive a black 3, and those shoes cant be filled very easy.
