Kicker Motor Support

Prior Laker

Question

Installed a Yamaha T8 on my 1750 Sportfish and need some advice from those who have a kicker. It's mounted right on the transom. I've seen several types of tie downs and support brackets. Is this a necessary piece of equipment and if so what type do you recommend? I asked at my marine dealer and they looked at me like I was crazy. So do you need an add-on support bracket? Is a transom saver needed on a kicker? Thanks.

The question is, does your T8 have power tilt/trim? If it does, I wouldn't worry about anything.

If you have manual tilt, I have owned a Bracket Pro kicker support and it definitely helped on the stress on the factory tilt rod from breaking. You can do a search on the web for Bracket Pro and you should be able to see what it's about.

If you don't mind drilling holes in your transom, it is good security to bolt the motor into the transom for the worst case scenario.

Mine is bolted on thru the transom and then I run a strap from the transom bracket around the back of the motor and back to the other side of the transom bracket to keep it from bouncing loose and dropping down when going thru rough water at higher speeds. No surprises that way
