Tranducer mounting question

Superduty

Question

Looking for any tips on mounting transucer in a glass boat(LMS480). Probably will shoot thru hull. Hoping to get high speed operation. Currently have an X-85 shoot thru hull that does not operate well at high speeds-came pre-rigged with boat. Also, anybody else notice that Lowrance advertises these units as 4000 watts peak-to-peak. My owners manual page 4 specs section says TRANSMITTER.....3000 WATTS PEAK-TO-PEAK. What gives? confused.gif

Deitz-if you're out there, Where did you mount your transducer? I believe you have the same unit and I know we have the same boat.

Super- I hve it mounted in the back near the bilge.. I took a sander and sanded down the fiber on the inside, got it nice and smooth. I am not right on the V part, just the first flat part aver the V in the back. I then made a pool of Epoxy and pu tthe transducer in it.. there is a bit of a trick.. I would be willing to help if you want it.. or you are more than welcome to check out mine. I am able to run threw the 100 foot hole on South Center at 50 MPH and still get a perfect bottom reading with my LMS 480.

I don't like to shoot through the hull!! Start by getting a plastic mounting plate. Silicone around the back side of the plate and mount on your boat. Then mount your transducers, speed metter, and any thing else you want on it and you have only put two holes in your boat.

I agree with Chris on the plastic mounting plate. It's a great $10 investment and you can mount many ducers or speed wheels to it while only putting 2 holes in your boat. Another good thing about the plate is if you don't get the ducer on there right the first time you can move it around without turning your transom into swiss cheese.

The mounting plate is a good idea but I'm leaning towards shooting thru the hull. The transom of my boat has stair step like angles and really doesn't offer a good spot that will be far enough away from motors propwash and still be under water while on plane. Is the epoxy temperature sensitive? Do I need to wait for warm weather?

I'm not speaking for dietz, but i run the 480 and its a good unit. if you have a little extra money i would spring for the lms-332c a color unit pretty similar to the 480. I wish i had waited a year to buy mine. color is awesome. if you really don't want color the 480 is an excellent unit

Love the LMS480, I have the NAV MMC card in it as well. Which is the reason I got the unit. It really works well for what I want it to do. The color units are nice too. I think it I did more walleye angling I might lean a little twards a color unit. From what I have heard its a little easier to tell a fish hugging the bottom on a color unit.. However, I have not noticed this yet myself. I feel I can see the bottom hugging fish quite well on the LMS 480.
