Ice Rod Building

Has anyone built there own ice rod? I was wondering where you got your blanks? I want to build two kinds a standard and a stillfish any input is greatly welcomed.

Thorne Bros in Fridley has all the parts you will need for rod building. They also educate you on how its done. A lot of people on FM have built their own rods, I'm sure they have some advice too.

Cubbies11 - I have built alot of rods and mostly use cabelas and netcraft. Call cabelas and ask for a tackle craft catalog and I believe netcraft has a web site. Any other questions just shoot. I and others can help avoid pitfalls...

Where are you located? I build all kinds of rods but I get most of my supplies from my local bait shop. Might want to make a run over to the St.Croix factory,you can pick up blanks cheap there.

Hello Cubbies- Check out Wild River Dist. they are located in Marine on the St. Croix. They carry ice blanks, and salvage fly tips (that can be made into a very nice ice rod). Let me know if you have any ?'s, I would love to help you out.

Not sure if you are close to Rochester, but we carry lots of blanks for all types of rods. We also offer rod building instruction. There are also several dozen custom rods already built to help with ideas.
