poutpro
Has anyone tried Berkeley's plastic wax worm for panfish through the ice? I went through a ton of live worms this past weekend and spent too much money on them. It would be nice if the plastics would work.
0 andy j
Plastic do work on panfish, and at times will out produce live bait. I haved used the pointy plastic wedges. I also have used the small diameter red berkley gulp worms with success this winter. There are still times that live bait is needed. Downsizeing is the key to my success. 0 Iceman12
Oh yeah they work. Try a ratso or shrimpo from customs jigs and spins. Somedays all you need is the jig itself with the plastic, others you will have to tip it with a waxie or larvae. I believe they sell them on this HSOforum somewhere. Chech out the equipment link. 0 poutpro
Will they work without the wax worm? The whole reason I was wondering was because went through a tub of wax worms in 1 weekend of fishing. Plastics would be cheaper and last longer. It's usually not required. In fact I usually outfish others around me who are using live bait. This is especially true for crappies.
0 poutpro
Ill have to try it this weekend. I got a pack of those Berkeleys that look just like wax worms and come in sausage-like links. Have you ever heard of salt and garlic salt initiating more strikes? I know some plastics come with that one them. I might try rolling the worms in the salt and try it w/o and see if it makes a difference.
