New trail camera question

Powerstroke

Question

How loud are they when they take pictures? Would it be obvious to a human who happened to trigger it?

I don't know a single person who has private land that I can use so I constantly hunt public lands. I want to set up a camera along some routes, but I figure if I found these routes then someone else obviously could. If my trail cam went off and they noticed they might steal the cam and or my pics.

Any thoughts? experience?

I would be kind of interested also. But I would think that with the wind and other noise they wouldn't hear it. Its just the flash part thats obvious.

But my reason is for something else. Just putting one on my fishhouse in the winter that way if someone breaks in I could get pics of them. wink.gif

I have the Cuddyback digital camera, as far as noise goes there is very little. The flash is definitely a concern as far as giving it away if triggered on a cloudy day, toward evening or at night. To get the best pictures I try to keep mine about 20 - 30 feet off the trail usually at 2 adjoining trails. This being the case is isn't very hard to notice the grape just hanging there. Without question I wouldn't spend much on the camera if I was going to put it on public land because it's just a matter of time and it will be gone. As far as using it in a fish house for thieves as soon as the thing goes off it will probably end up either in the lake or in their collection. They are a very interesting toy unfortunately also very appealing to those out there like like to make your stuff their stuff.

What makes them loud is the film winding after the picture. If it wasn't for that, a person might not even hear it.

The flash is a dead giveaway.

For the person looking at putting one in their fishhouse, about the only way to go for that is an infra-red camera where there is no flash. - for the price of the camera, you would be best to just leave your fishouse empty. Like was said before, if you had the camera in your house and someone broke in, the camera is going to be gone too unless you can hide it somehow.

back to the original post - I use mine on public lands a lot. Haven't lost one yet. It probably will someday. I have had pictures of people walking by the camera when they were scouting for deer as well. Actually had someone walk up to the camera (foot prints a dead give away), after I got a picture, but they still left it alone. Another experience I have had is that is people getting my phone # off of the cam and calling me to discuss what I have been seeing in my pics and eager to trade information. I do hunt bow only public areas and the places I put the cams are usually hard to get to areas where typical hunters wouldn't go (too far or very difficult to pull a deer out of

) so that might have something to do with the type of people that do find my cams, but it sure does diminish the chance of someone coming across it.

I have the stealth cams. Less expensive in case you lose one. And my theory on public lands, the more cams you have to scout with, the better.

You can set the times you want to take your pictures such as day time only. I don't think you can actually turn it off although on our old one made by the same company you could. However in your case this may be of interest, TheftStop Plus theft deterrent and recovery system. User's name and phone number is branded into the electronics. User name, along with date and time, is printed directly on image. Unit attaches to tree with included aircraft steel cable. Hidden padlock shackle prevents cutting.
