we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted October 19, 2005 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted October 19, 2005 I believe the service life is determined by starting the engines up and letting them run under load until they fail and then getting the average of that time. The Tanaka engines on the Nils Master augers are commercial grade vs retail grade engines on the others. ------------- Nils Master at TackleCity.com
panski master
How much does the nils weigh with a 8" aguer? I know strike masters new aguer is only 20 lbs. I thinking of upgrading to one of these two but haven't decided which one. They both are good augers and now I'm looking into the finer points like weight before I make my purchase. I guess the other thing I'm going to have to consider is the new strike master is a 4 stroke. I wonder if there will be problems????keith Kowalczyk
Bob_D
Keith,With the standard 8" steel bit that can drill 42" of ice, the Nils Master is about 22lbs on my digital fish scale.
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted October 20, 2005 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted October 20, 2005 In response to you panski master, I heard from a rep that the 4 stroke engine for augers was also considered by Jiffy who have outstanding engineers that decided it needed more testing to ensure any problems were worked out if possible given todays technology before rushing it to market. I was asked - Do you know what happens to oil at freezing temps. I answered of course, it gets thicker. But hey, maybe technology for auger engines has improved enough to minimize that problem. We'll see in the next couple of years ehhh?

Bob_D
That is exactly why I don't buy cars from the first model year they are produced. Let someone else work out the bugs. I'm looking forward to starting mine up again this season, but it will stay "summerized" for at least another month.
GullRock
I fish LOW a real lot and want to know if this auger has an extension option that can be used for Red and LOTW.
Bob_D
Quote: Also, I fish LOW a real lot and want to know if this auger has an extension option that can be used for Red and LOTW. This long enough for you? This unit has one extenion on it. A standard Nils Master auger will cut 42-43" of ice WITHOUT an extension. With the longer extension it will cut close to 6'

we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted October 31, 2005 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted October 31, 2005 Here is a video that show a Nils Auger going up against another brand both 8" augers. The other brand could just as easily be any of the tecumseh motor brands. All great augers for sure. You still have to be impressed with the speed of this Nils Auger. Note how much pressure each is putting on their augers while drilling. Enjoy: Nils auger speed and ease of use - CLICK HERE Bob D got some input from folks saying that the auger "race" he did above was not fair. So...he started thinking about how he could make it more fair for folks. This is what I came up with..... Auger Race...Part
Bob_D
Note to self....Make sure you have BOTH creepers on when drilling holes. I had one break at the ramp so I was only wearing one at the time the second video was made.
fishbreath
Years back I guy told me I couldn't drill a hole with a hand auger no where as quick as he could with his 3hp power auger. Well I'll tell you, a one arm man with dull blades could of beat him.The only that had power was his mouth.
