Polar Bear
Does anybody know where I could buy some 1 lb. diameter, 5 lb. test original braid spiderwire? They quit making the stuff 2 years ago. I love it for panfishing because of the way it handles and holds bobber stops. I've emailed the company offering to buy anything they might have left in the corner of the warehouse...but no luck. Also been checking e.bay ... nothing there either. Thanx.
Northlander
Have you tried Power Pro? I havent seen the original Spiderwire in that test in a long time. Try WalMart. At times they have it but I dont remember seeing that diameter.Ill keep my eyes open.
JohnMickish
You can get fireline in 4 and 6 pound test.
ZapBranigan
Yeah what's up with those guys. I bought some 20# 4# dia Spider wire back when the stuff first came out for Carp fishing and can't find this combo any longer. It's like they were experimenting with the markets for a while and now only sell what was a big seller.
Bob_D
I vote PowerPro. The stuff is awesome. I have it aon all but my trout gear now. I may and up switching that too. 8# line 1# dia.
Polar Bear
Hey Bob-D, thanks for the tip on PowerPro line. I went to their HSOforum and found that it is made of the same Spectra fiber as Spiderwire. Looks like I'll be buying some soon.
pj4
power pro has my vote. love the 8# /1# diameter. tie on a snap and several feet of vanish.for crappies i tie on a no knot to the end of the vanish for quick hook change system.
Tonka Boy
Someone has to throw a wrench in the mix... I absolutely can't stand PP. Fireline will get my nod any day of the week. For whatever reason I've broken off many, many fish on PP while the same pound test of Fireline has never once broke on me. Plus I think Fireline ties easier. Just my 2 cents...I would keep looking. Sorry Ebass/Mr. Special. You tried to hook me!!
dirtking
Bob - do you use the powerpro 8# 1# for lakers? We fish them on White Fish Bay - LOTW - I have been looking for a different line to use - Seems like the mono has too much stretch at the deep depths. Bob_D
It works great in deep water. You can't imagine how many bites that you never feel. There is a lot of stretch in 100' of mono. I do tie on a floro leader when I use PP. I've been real happy with the stuff. It does not work well for pike leaders or tip-up line for those who are thinking about it.
