jhemi
Has anyone ever done a snowmobile in ice fishing trip? It's something I would like to try. Kind of like a boundary waters trip without conoe's or mosquitos and replace them with a snowmobile and ice flys. Any stories or tips on places I can try this would be fun to hear and appreciated. Northlander
I would also like to try this. Anyone have any info or suggestions on lakes and time of year?
slotfish
snomobile into canada through rainy, get the canpass (rabc) and research the trails that connect via lake or however and snomobile into a lodge on manitou, north rainy, or any other of the bizillion lakes up there. some have resorts, and some don't as you know i'm sure. leave your vehicle/trailer at the t-bird. they'd let you start there as a home base for a small fee. you could even leave from my place just down the road from there for nothing. do an internet search for ontario's sunset country; fill out the information to get the free map/activity guide, etc. pretty cool stuff for free and it lists all kinds of resorts that i'm sure would be eleated to help you organize a trip as such. i make trips like your refering to, but i come back to the cabin each night (on the weekends). can't say that i've never layed awake at night dreaming up a trip just like you're talking about though. nestor falls or the angle would be cool for that too. if i can assist you any further than this, if it has helped, just let me know. GoodToGo
There are outpost cabins on lakes in Ontario not too far from Int'l Falls that are open in the winter. Ross' Landing I know has one on Loonhaunt, which is accessed through Clearwater/Pipestone, which is probably an hour northwest of the Falls. It's probably a 20-25 mile ride to get there in sleds, and it is a beautiful area and very scenic trip. There are others too, try checking out the "Canada" section of this forum. Stiff
Yup - Leaving tomorrow morning for an annual trip made to a somewhat remote portion of LOW. Stopping at Red for one night on the way up too. This trip is somewhat a highlight of fishing year for me - surely the ice fishing year. Anyway, my personal opinion is that the trip is a lot better by having a cabin (and a hot shower) to come back to each night. I'd love to to try Nestor Falls or Rainy too. I think at least one resort on Rainy caters to this kind of thing.Wish me luck !! :-DFish On!!!!
jlm
Same here, LOW is where I travel by sled. If you have never had an opportunity, I say go for it! The remote areas of LOW can produce some great fishing. Bring a map and a GPS. Good luck!
uffdapete
We'll be taking snowmobiles into remote Canadian lakes the next 3 days for trout, crappies, walleyes and pike. We won't be camping, but may stay in a trapper's cabin that's now used as a lake cabin. Definitely my highlight ice fishing trip.
Outfitter17
I own Camp Manitou on Lower manitou lake. The camp is located on an island, we snowmobile into camp of the cedar narrows road. The road is located about 1 hr. north of fort frances, we travel the road for about 14 miles then there is a nice parking area, we drop the sleds and travel about 7 miles to the island. From camp we have access to 40 miles of lake riding, not to mention all the other small lakes to fish. We fish for Lake trout in the winter. We have 3 housekeeping cabins holding a total of only 14 people. If any one is interested call me at 1-800-766-0876 I can give you more details then.
