Remington Model 710

If you're looking to save a few bucks, I suggest you look at the Savage offerings. Accu-trigger is a real plus, and by all accounts accuracy is acceptable. The Tikka line is also nice, and has an excellent reputation.

I own several Remington bolts, and swear by them, but wouldn't waste my time on the 710. Several other forums devoted strictly to shooting have some hilarious threads about the 710, except I don't think Remington was as amused as the rest of us.

Hi Vex, I was a poor college kid once too! SO I know where you are coming from. I'd hold off before buying a 710. Take what you have saved, and put a quality gun down on layaway. Usually, layaway programs are interest free and you have 6 months to pay them off. It's only March, you have plenty of time before next season. And trust me, you will be happy you waited when next season comes.

What ever you do, don't make the same mistake I did in college! The day after I got my first credit card.....I went out and bought a Benelli with it crazy.gif Took me way too long to pay for that!

Total garbage, take the advice about the savage or look at the Remington 700 ADL, these are both quality rifles for reasonable cost. The 710 has earned a terrible reputation and I do mean earned. The Savage's or the 700 will both last you a lifetime for about the same cost or just a few bucks more.

I'll get slammed for this, but I've owned a 710 for 4 years and have had no problems. I only use it one week a year for deer hunting and site it in every year. This is only my experience with it and I don't doubt that there may be problems, just not with every gun made. The only regret I have is the dang thing is UGLY. grin.gif

Another vote for Savage. I picked up a 111 in .338 Win mag back in '98. Excellent rifle, and is very, very accurate. I have taken three elk and six deer with it so far. I have not regretted buying it one bit.

With the new accutriggers, they are even better now.

My opinion is buy a Rem 700BDL. I own 3 of them from .22-250 to a .338 mag. I love them all. They shoot incredibly accurate and hold up in value. I do recommend putting on a good scope. Optics also make the gun!!!!!!
