Shaft lenth

I have a 1650 fishhawk. What shaft length should I get for a transum mount trolling motor. 36" or 42"

I'd go with the longer shaft. You can always bring the motor up, but with a shorter one you can never bring it down.

Listen to foamy, he only has one post, but is already giving good advice, welcome to the foram, I had a shorter shaft on my first troller and got sick of lisening to the whirl when the prop came out of the water.

The longer the shaft the better it is.

I have a 48" on my Pro-V and it was too short on some of the windy-er days last summer. I'd go with a 54" if I were you.

I would go with a 50" or better. I had a 50 on my 619 and on really ugly days the prop would still suck air. If you do go with a longer shaft, I would look into a bounce buster or tie down strap for the motors head. These have saved alot of motors over the years.

Buy the motor with the longest shaft. On windy days you will not be disappointed.

hey rodbuilder--if you run a pro-v try to go to a 24 volt system--then you can get a 60" shaft and upgrade the thrust power so you have more to control the boat in winds
