Just got a new one last year... in a word... AWESOME! I bought a new power drive 65lb. to install it on. No need to waste the upgrade to an auto pilot, just install the co-pilot on your rod and it's as easy as adjusting your speed /direction right there. Never even hooked up the foot pedal last year! What's really nice is you can be anywhere in the boat and control the motor, it really shines when helping out the kids when fishing... then I just wear the transmitter on my belt, and no matter what I'm doing where I'm at, I can bump the direction/speed.

I just purchased a new boat which unfortunatley has a minnkota maxuum on it. frown.gif so for me it's back to a foot pedal for at least a year.

Good Luck!

Ken

GREAT! Get one if you can. I love using it, mostly all the

time. The only time I dont really like it is when its

really windy out and I'm casting for pike/muskie.

But for everything else its great. When there is more than

one person in the boat its really nice to have. You can

walk to the back of the boat, take your fish off and dont

have to worry about a cord being tripped over and dragged

around. Its just so much easier and worth the money IMO.

Not on MinnKota, but I see Motor guide came out with a version this year... so maybe in the future for MinnKota. The only MinnKotas they work on, are Power Drive units, they can have the Auto pilot though.

Good Luck!

Sorry just re-read your post... I guess I never tried it with the foot pedal hooked up... I would think you can still use it though as there are two connections when you install it. One for the co-pilot, and one for the foot pedal. The only time I used the foot pedal was right after I installed it to make sure it still ran with that, otherwise co-pilot all year!

On the unit that mounts on the power drive minn kato there are two plugs, one plugs into the motor, the other plug is for the foot pedal, mine was purchased 2 years ago, the manf. might have elimated the 2nd plug on newer models, I never bother to hook up the foot pedal. Good unit.

You can run the foot pedal and copilot at the same time. The foot pedal takes preference.

The sideplate comes with a male and a female plug attached. One plug goes to the main board (where the foot pedal is usually attached), then the pedal is attached to the other plug.

Are you sure about that? confused.gif

Well anyways I have a co-pilot, as I already stated

earlier, and I have looked into doing that also but I

thought it wasnt possible.

The footpedal plug is different from the "extra" plug on

the co-pilot. That extra plug is only for a corded remote.

As far as I was told by my dealer, a footpedal and remote

working at the same time is impossible.

It sure would be sweet if that was possible though.
