I've been using my FL-8 7-8? years. If I forget it at home or forget to charge the battery it about kills me to fish without it. You can still catch fish of course, but you feel a little naked. I don't have much desire for a camera, don't feel like I need one, although it'd be kind of nice. Lot of stuff to haul with already.

I have the LX-1, wished I had bought the LX-3 instead, but saturday night a buddy and I were fishing a dark colored, southwest metro lake, and I caught 2 times as many fish as he did. anytime a line showed up on my flasher, I raised my bait to that level and I had a crappie. He has a camera and it wouldn't work on that lake and it rarely works at night and that is the only time I can get out to fish..... SO, go with the flasher. If you have the money to get one with the zoom feature, do it, if you have that kind of money go with the one that lets you adjust where that zoom is, the LX-3.......battery life for me is a whole weekend, friday night until sunday noon, not straight through, a guy has to have a beer now and then. Good luck and go with Marcum

I have fished with a Vex FL-8 for years and fished with a Mar-Cum LX-3 last weekend. I was highly impressed with the Marc-Cum, and would strongly recommend a solid look at it. I had a hard time straying from Vex (and still an awesome product), but the other guys with me are talking about switching after seeing the LX-3 in action. For what it's worth.

I also have an Aqua-Vu and love it, but it comes waaaayyyyyy after my flasher no matter what kind. I'd take my flasher(s) before my rods even.

slick814 - I thought walking out of Thorne Bros a few years ago with 2 rods under my belt was $$$! WOW- you topped me times 5!!!

Glad I could help. This is what the site is about- learning about this sport! Enjoy your unit. I know AJ from the site used that unit and talked nothing but good things about it.

Captain -

Thanks... I've been reading the manual & playing with the simulator the Lowrrance has on the HSOforum. It's pretty cool. Getting the first chance to try it out tonight. From what I've been able to try just in the living room, I'm already pretty happpy. The GPS is pretty good, the maps are better than I thought (street maps, etc.), the only thing I can say bad as of this moment is I wish that there was a bit more detail on the lakes, but otherwise, I'm seriously hpppy with the new tool!
