BigDaddy
I grew up shooting a 12 ga. pump. Several years ago I purchased a 12 ga. Auto. I really like shooting the Auto and I'm pretty accurate with this gun. Recently, I've gotten the itch for an O/U. Why are they so popular especially on TV? Isn't it nice to have more than 2 shots? Will I like it better than my Auto (I know this is subjective)?
irvingdog
It's all about double guns, Big Daddy. Either you get it or you don't. They are unquestionably the most reliable action. The question is, are you a reliable shot?
gspman
This is one of those can 'o worms guestions. Everybody will have a different opinion and some will get religious about it. Anyways, here's my $.02.A properly balanced lightweight SxS or O/U is a phenomenal hunting tool. It'll handle better than any auto or pump IMHO. It's nice once in a while to have that extra 3rd shot but it's even nicer to have a gun that shoots where you look and makes your 1st shot count. It isn't too often when I'm shooting a 2 barrel gun that I wish I had that 3rd shot. I can also tell you that I'm a sloppier shot when using my auto. It's amazing how much better you concentrate when you know you only have 2 tries.Break actions are popular on TV because the guy probably is given one by one of the show sponsors (Beretta, Browning, etc...) and because they think it makes them look more expert and classy and because they look cool. Usually if you have your own show you can afford one too.As for "will I like it..." You'll like it if you shoot better with it 8^).Do some research on the internet. You'll find lots of info on the pro's and con's and "superiority" of the break action guns.Bottom line. If your a killing machine with that auto then I wouldn't change unless you just can't get rid of the itch and the money is burning a hole in your pocket. kentuck_ike
I use an o/u I like it because of the removable chokes. I have mod. in the top & full in the bottom. I can switch which barrel fires on the safety. I feel I make the long shots better. It took some getting used to but I would not go back.
