Kylersk
I'd guess about 6" or so.. I thought there would have been more. Also, I really need practice at cleaning them! Wasted way too much meat.. but I guess for my first time, I shouldnt expect much.

Kylersk
Not yet... I did a search last night, but I'm not sure if search was working.. I kept getting a bunch of non related posts returned, regardless of what I searched for.

Kylersk
Thanks! I think hanson was trying to describe that method to me, but I didnt quite understand it. Now it makes perfect sense!
hanson
Kylersk-Thats pretty cool about the gill in that Pikes' stomach. You would think after getting a meal like that, he wouldn't have been hungry to hit your shiner too.I have an idea about how to get the Y bones out but am not an expert. I might end up cleaning a pike a year for myself. Hope I didn't confuse the dump out of you with my rookie instructions. I may have to go back out to Medicine and catch one just for some practice. Mark Christianson
HansonFunny you mention that its surprising the fish hit a shiner with a belly full already. Many moons ago, I got a 31 inch walleye opening night on a huge shiner minnow. We flopped it in the bottom of the boat, and when I went to take out the hook, a pike tail was sticking out of her throat. Not a small hammer handle either.
