Can you get video from AquaVu straight to laptop?

I was told there is a way to record video straight to a laptop without a video camera or anything in between. Is this possible? It would have to be via a PCMCIA card or some sort of AV to USB adaptor, right???

I am very interested in doing this if its possible as I do not have a video camera to record to at this time.

Ok, guess I found it. $70.00 cable that convers analog video to a USB connection. Will be anxious to see if it works.

Found several things actually. One is just a cable. 2 different video in jacks that "Y" in to on USB out that plugs in to your PC. That runs around 70.00.

Another that I found is made by Plextor. Its a small box about the size of a 35 mm camera or maybe a bit smaller that has input for 2 audio channels (left and right, I assume), video and s-video on one side and USB out and AUX out on the other side. No power source that I see, and includes a good amount of software. That runs about 50.00 after a rebate. do a google search for Plextor ConvertX PX-AV100U Digital Video Converter USB 2.0 if you are interested in knowing more.

I think I will be ordering the plextor one after I do a little more checking to make sure it will work.

I'm the guy who started that thread. I just got my camera and will be experimenting with the WINTV-USB device, my Aqua-VU, and my laptop this weekend. When I get it all figured out, I'll post a report.

I don't have time right now to write a long report, but I thought I'd post up that it works, and works well. I was able to capture a bunch of fish on video to my laptop, including a walleye hitting a jigging rap. The file sizes were large, and I need to experiment on how to optimize it. They were running in the 80 to 200 MB range.

I'll post more when I get the time, and I figure it out some more.

I am going to try going to a camcorder and then to the laptop for now until I can afford to get the adaptor for the laptop.

Are you using the HAuppage one you mentioned earlier? I will have to recommend it to customers if it does work well.

Yes, I'm using the Hauppage WinTV-USB device along with their WinTV 2000 application. I updated the sofware and the drivers from their HSOforum (free) before I started using it.

The video quality is pretty good, though I really need to figure out how to make a viewable piece in a smaller file size. I also haven't figured out how (if it can be done?) to not capture the audio track in recording.

It may take me a while to figure this all out, but I'll post a report when I do.
