Strikemaster Auger Bit

Bryon

Question

I just got a new 7" auger bit and blades for my Strikemaster power head and drilling holes, it wants to pull the whole auger down after it breaks through the ice, almost like the bit is slightly bigger than the blades cut. If I'm ready for it, I can usually stop it from pulling me down, but a few times it has still pulled me down a bit, and with only a foot of ice or so, it's not bad, was wondering how it's going to be with 2 feet or more. Has anybody else experienced this or know why it might be happening?

Any info on this would be appreciated.

I just went to strikemaster and picked up a new bit for my old Mag III, I went with the two bladed lazer. I can tell you after using the chipper blade for a million years, the new lazer blades caught me off guard, I went down the first time I tried the new bit.The auger cut the hole so fast I didn't have time to react to the downward pull of the auger I have used it a few times now and seem to have it under control.

Try slowing your cut as you feel the center point just pop through the ice into the water. This should limit the "Bite" at the bottom and finish out the hole smother.

Once the center point pops through there is nothing to meter the progression of the blade so it bites at full chomp if you apply the same amount of pressure as you did prior. Back off at the termination of the cut and see if it helps once.
