Looking for a bass lure

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me the name of this bass lure and who makes it? It's a soft bodied lure that looks very much like a Zara Spook from a distance. The lure is basically a soft plastic tube with hooks. Rather than treble hooks hanging from it like a Spook, its got a double hook in the back with each hook pointed upwards so it's still weedless. The lure is meant to be retrieved in a walk-the-dog pattern. Anyone know what this lure is called and where I can get one? I never knew the name of the lure, but we always called it "the turd". grin.gif

Thanks,

Hey...I have one of those, unfortunately i forgot who makes 'em. I did get it from Gander Mountain though. Hopefully, they should have 'em there when open water season starts. Sorry, couldn't help you out more.

I think what you are talking about is the "Mann's Ghost" topwater lure. It's a hollow soft plastic tube with a double hook in the rear. No fringes or tails, but I think this is what you are looking for. Check out BPS or any other tackle HSOforum for a picture (I'd post one, but I'm not home right now to do so).

It's called a Weed Demon and it is made by Snag Proof. Pretty much any store can get them if you ask. I'm sure the larger stores keep them in stock.

It could also be the ghost, they both look similar.

It was the Ghost, but both lures fit the description really well. I think either would work great for what I'm looking for. However, I've got to go back to my old trusty "Turd"- the Ghost!

Dan- I have tried both lures above... However, will not use them in tounaments. I just plain loose too many fish on them.. I dont think the hooks are large enough for the lures. They are very good at attracting fish and getting them to hit.. not so good at connecting up with the fish.. That has just been my expierience with them. I'll stick with the scum frog... My fave is the Popn Scum Frog. Slop is some of my fave to fish! FYI I tried some of the new Tounament Prosieries Scum Frogs last year as well... hooks catch into the body too much and you loose fish.. Learned that the hard way during a tournament last year... OOOOOPS.. Like I said, I'll stick with the old regulars(Which I switch the hooks out on also)

Hey now... LOL. Kinda the best of both worlds for me, a spook & scum frog combo - maybe I should get some. Maybe you could add some tails like the scum frog on that thing... wait, I take that back. I came up with the idea first - I'm on my way to the patent office as we speak LOL!

Awe - the dog days of summer are sounding really good right about now. Bass fishing and lake enhanced sunburns blush.gif!

Tom tell me about it! How much are plane tickets to and guide service in Florida? frown.gif

I need a new hobby since I don't ice fish. Maybe I should pick up building lures like spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, jigs, etc... Hey maybe I could build that new lure I joked about earlier. I'll call it a "Scum Demon", "Ghost Scum", or "Scum Ghost"... LOL.

Here is the prototype "Scum Ghost" Scum_Ghost.jpg

Probably would be awesome! I'm taking it to Mann's or Southern Lure Company (maker or scum frogs) grin.gif I'm gonna be RICH IS TELL YA... RICH! I'm accepting orders cool.gif

I hadn't checked back here in a little while after I got my answer. Now that I have I can definitely say that you guys need some open water and a bass rod in your hands, or it looks like you go a little loco!!! I actually like the looks of the hybrid lure- I'd give it a shot if it wasn't a fictional lure.

Dan, I haven't had the big hook up problems that were reported here. In fact, I've had pretty good hook up rates with the lure. I work them pretty slow, so maybe that's why the better hook up rates??? I find that they're basically a weedless Zara Spook. Definitely a different action than a scum frog. I like the froggies too though!

Scoot - I'm glad you liked my hybrid creation grin.gif! Maybe I should've made a career out of graphic arts or something instead - good ole'photoshop! Anyway, it does look like something that someone might actually buy though and isn't that what lure companies design lures for - to catch the eye, not fish... LOL.

You are right about needing to be out fishing! Bass fishing is a disease, I'm convinced... and you wouldn't have twist my wife's arm for her to be convinced either. What is winter for - doing all the honey-do's frown.gif and storing up as many "points" as possible to use come open water grin.gif

I was just at Galyans and Heddon has made an injured spook and a spook with feathered rear hook - both look good for spook lovers. The injured spook as two propellers (one on front and back) and the feather hooked spook has a BIG feathered rear hook. I know it's not the same as the weedless ghost, but for spook fisherman, these could be good additions to the arsenal!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
