kentuck_ike
Willie,How was the hunting today? Did the dogs work better than you shoot? That is the way it usally works for me. Don't worry the dogs get used to it, at least mine did.
Wild Willie
The dogs worked well together and for the most part the planted birds held tight. We released six birds, had five nice points (one false as the bird quickly gave us the slip), three nice backs/honors, two runners that would not be pinned down, two running/flushed birds by the dogs and one by a hunter, two misses by me...all my guns fault of course and some great video/stills of Kenai in action quartering, pointing and backing. Unfortunately she didn't get a chance to retrieve (that's Buddy's fault.) She was very polite in allowing him to finish the retrieves. I should have called him off but I'm kind of a rookie myself...please accept my apology. All-in-all our mission was accomplished. Six planted birds, four birds in the bag and approximately ten birds located in the infamous Glendorado Apple Orchard area.Setterguy...we found one more bird after you left. I had a great time and enjoyed watching Kenai gracefully work the fields. We witnessed great quartering, perfect range, and stylish rock solid and steady points. She is truly a thing of beauty and I enjoyed watching her do that vodoo you both do so well. I'm wishing for you and her a large and healthy litter of pups. Looking forward to seeing the pics of yesterdays hunt!
setterguy
Finally got some of the pics up, they turned out really good, and the video I shot is really cool. And that is the last time I ever want to hear you apologize for your dog retrieving, thats just silly. Glad we could get out again. I am maybe going to try and sneak one more trip out before the pups come, add to the video montage. Here ya go......
Wild Willie
All right, okay, enough said no more apologies! Dude...how come your photos look washed out – you gotta have Photoshop or something like that on your high powered desktop to add some contrast, snap, crackle or pop. If not just email them to me and I will enhance them for you absolutely free of charge. Let me know when your ready to go again...I'm thinking 26th, 27th or 28th if the weather cooperates! setterguy
The pics came out dark, I had to up the brightness so you could see everything. I'll shoot you the originals and we'll see what you can do with them. I just figured out how to post pics, now you want me to edit them? I knew I should have paid attention in computer class, I just kept thinking "this will never catch on" shows how smart I am.....
Wild Willie
Send the photos as JPEG files to schrader2739 at msn.com and I will see what I can do. I could also throw a little flyer together for you if you like. Just include text about Kenai in your email and I will layout a 8 1/2 x 11 flyer saved as a PDF for you to print and email to folks interested in her and the pups. setterguy
Sounds like you are the one with the super computer. Actually that sounds like a great idea, and I would appreciate it very much.
Wild Willie
No not really...just a little Apple iMac with QuarkExpress, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel, AGFA T1200 flatbed scanner, etc., etc. I used to be considered a full time graphic design professional for what ever that's worth...now I'm just another graphic design hack struggling to stay alive! kentuck_ike
Wild Willie, If you are going to get out the end of the month or maybe even next month, I might be able to join you. I also have a friend from LeRoy that bought a pup last spring that would come, If we can make a plan early enough for him to get off work.Ike
Wild Willie
Ike - I have been trying to locate a shooting preserve/game farm located halfway between the border and the Cities. I found one located in Northfield they have approximately 80 huntable acres, I think he said four/five bird minimum per hunter at $16 per bird and any scratch brought in would be half. He mentioned we could have the farm all to ourselves for the day if no other groups were scheduled. I also contacted Caribou Gun Club in LeSuer and they have about the same requirements, 3 bird per hunter minimum, $16 per bird. I would prefer to try the Caribou Gun Club, looks like a first class operation, take a look at their HSOforum, caribouhuntclub dot com. Let me know when you're availble to get together. It would be nice to get a couple more guys and dogs to join in the fun.
kentuck_ike
Willie,Whats the name of the place in Northfeild, I'll check out the other webstite as well. We will hit one of these or maybe even your regular place. We will figure it out.Babe is due Feb 10th so we will have to work around that.Ike
Wild Willie
The other place located in Northfield is called Shooters Ridge. Talked to a guy by the name of Terry at 507.331.3113. Not sure about either of the two places but they are located south of me and north of you. We can always head up to Glendorado...but that would mean a 9 hour round trip drive for you and your buddy. I could do it either 1/26, 1/27 or 1/28 or any Wed, Thurs or Friday in February as long as the temp is 10 degrees or better...just let me know when, where, who and how. I'm sure we can sneak out before the pups arrive!
gspman
There's a place by Lonsdale called RJ's Rooster Ranch you guys may want to check out too. I watched a Llewellin Setter trial their last spring. Seemed like an okay place.
Wild Willie
gspman - Thanks for the tip...I checked out the HSOforum and gave them a call! They have lots of hens and very few roosters left...their outgoing phone message said pheasants are virtually impossible to get this time of year!
