Lights
How how much life(holes) do you get from your blades? I have drilled less than 75 holes and mine seem dull. I had to push down on The auger tonight to get it to cut. They were not iced up. Maybe i was hard on them up at Red lake this weekend when they did want to ice up. It was 22 below. But they cut better then than they do now. Thanks lights
waterbug
Red lake(or any dirty ice) can be hard on blades when theres not much snow and lots of wind the dirt and sand imbedded in the ice will dull them fast, you will likely need a little honing or get yourself a sharpener made by strikemaster and run over the blades yourself it will help. zpinca
I got a lazer mag ultra the first year they came out. in a year, i went through 3 or 4 sets of blades. i kept calling the company saying my auger wouldn't cut and they would send me new blades. i have since found out that those blades are usually only good for 50-75 holes and that is under perfect conditions. i have since went to the lazer mag express (2 blades). i can't tell the difference in cutting speed, but those blades are supposedly only good for 700+/- holes. again this is under ideal conditions and care of the blades. that has been my only gripe with the strikemaster lazer series. otherwise their customer service has been great as had the power unit of the auger. the bottom line is that if you cut a lot of holes and can't afford to buy new blades every other outing, i'd find a different auger. Lights
I Like the power head also. It has'nt gave me one bit of trouble. But If all i am going to get out of these blades is 50-75 holes. That's kind of disapointing. If that is the case I think I'll have to call strikemaster and have a talk with them. Lights
Called Strikemaster yesterday about my 9'lazer auger. They said bring it on in and you can either exchange it for the same one or try a different auger bit of your choice. Drove up there today and exchanged it. No questions asked but what I would like to try? Now that is first class customer service.
opsirc
I purchased a lazer mag two yeaRS ago, still using the same blades. guessing cut somewhere in the area of 100 plus holes. several upon LOW last year thru the 40+ inches of ice. They are just now starting to not cut too well.O

Mr.Seaguar
boy I cut 000s of holes with my Mag2000 and it was still going strong when i sold it. That must be the difference between chipping and cutting blades.
Lucky Dogg
hey lights, i've had one for 4-5yrs. only on my 2nd set of blades. i fish in canada alot thru 36+inchs of ice. don't know what to tell ya. i have to be hittin around 400holes/set, maybe you should check to see if your blades are level to each other. one blade could be doing all the work. the set i'm drillin with now is 3yrs old and still cuts right thru the ice we got out there now, later Dogg
Lights
Lucky Dogg, I think they have some problems with the blade alingmet. Like you say. I also think only one of the blades were cutting and when that one got dull it would just rub. Unless you could get in time with the auger and wable it in the hole. So it would cut on a different blade. O well they gave me a new one. Will see how this one does tomorrow.
