Kylersk
The above was advice given to me recently. Ok.. now how do you find the weedline? I've got a Vex FL8 and not exactly sure how to use it, cept for when I see the fish obviously off the bottom.
chunkytrout
Don't fish alot of weedlines but my FL8 wish show a green column above your solid red bottom column in heavier weeds. Not so hot though when they're all dead. Then I imagine it comes down to experience, memory, and maps.
PikeTipper
This is usually pretty easy to do on early ice since you really only need to put a little water on top of the ice to get a good reading to the bottom without drilling a hole. Depends on the clarity of the water but start checking with your vex in maybe 10ft and if the bottom reading shows as green then you are still in the weeds. Work deeper until you get a reading of a solid red bottom, where these meet you have your weed line. If the ice and water are clear then sometimes you can just look down and see where the weedline is through the ice.Does this make sense?
Deitz Dittrich
Great advise above... It does help if you have some knowledge of where the weedline was before the ice formed. Bring a water bottle with you and squirt a little on the ice and drop your tranceducer on that water. You should get a solid bottom reading. If your unit is telling you there is something else down there, Its either fish or weeds! Best of luck!
