Yellow Dog
I encountered a new one...new ice that was window pane clear. I could see down 15 feet through the ice and the ridges on snail shell were obvious! BUT as I walked along, every fish saw me and scattered. I set up thinking they'd come back--never showed in over an hour. How do you fish the ultra clear stuff?
Bobb-o
i always tried to fish an any available snow cover, another method i have heard that works is to lay a piece of carpet down on the ice and then come back later and fish there
Rost
If the ice and the water is that clear, I'd come back at night and try it. I'd bet in this situation, it will be a night bite.
so haaad
Also try under the darkness of a fish house.
The Grebe
We ran into the same situation this past week-end. I'm sure that the ice magnifies movement to the fish below and the clear ice amplifies sound....unless the fish in the lake have a death wish, shallow water fishing is nonexistant! We got up on some foggy ice, worked it out to about 12-14 feet and set up shop. Right at dinner time, the fish started hitting. I experimented, going in closer, but I could'nt get a bite. Went back out to 12 feet and started getting some fish again. I had cut holes from about 8 feet, out to the deeper stuff, prior to prime time.
Captain B.R.K
What else works is if you find a patch of snow that has crusted on the ice, set up on that to cover your shadows.
psegriz
I've been in situations like that and couldn't even get a bite if the lantern was on in the sled. Go at night and shut all the lights off. Turn a flashlite on only to remove your fish and rebait. It works.
