fishing 101
I have a new Voyager, and entered my DL# in the license holder - works pretty slick. Now the only problem I have, is where to place it. Is it OK to place it on the side of the house? I think that should be OK, because there is no place to put in front where the door is, unless I place it on the door - but when I have the door open, you won't see it. Any comments? loebs93
I put mine on the door. I wasn’t really thinking when I did it because now when I try to roll up the door and Velcro it up the holder is too wide for the Velcro and doesn’t allow it to role up. It turns out that it’s not that big of a deal for me because I never really use the door and if I do I just fold up on to of the house and it stays there. Its on the front of the house where the holder looks normal. I would be careful of where I put it on the side too. You just want to make sure the house will collapse properly without the license holder getting in the way.
Duffer
i put mine right on the door over the gander mountain sign.
Tom Linderholm
aI slapped mine right on the front of the door. The rolling up isn't much of a problem you just cant use the middle velcro attachment
fishing 101
Thanks guys. I am pretty sure I am going to put it on the door. next question - How did you puncture the holes in the tarp? I don't want it to keep freying after I put the pegs through it.
Tofishem
I attached mine right in the middle of the roof as you look at the top bar of the front. As to putting a hole in the canvas...get a penny nail, make sure it's at least 3/32" or 1/8" dia., then heat the nail with a lighter make sure you get it really warm and poke the hole. Works slick!Bruce
fishing 101
great idea with the heated nail. I was thinking somehow I need to melt it, but wasn't sure how to do it. That should work great. Thanks - problem solved.
cjac
Put mine on the side under the Fish Trap logo. Falls into place nicely when collapsing. Only caution with mounting on the door is if you wish to roll the door back, as mentioned in an earlier email. Also, look to mount in a vertical position so it's less likely to catch the wind and give you an annoying "flapping" sound. Definitely use a heated punch or nail, it seals the hole well. One curious thought: If two units are linked with the connector, do we NEED a license for EACH, or is it then considered one shelter? Not worth chancing over a $8 licence, just curious if anyone else thought of that.....I'll say this: The Voyager is a BEAR to assemble, took all night and a 12 pack! Can't wait to get out in it! How much do you guys/gals cover the "snow flap" up with hole slush and snow to cut down on wind? Any risk of it freezing in and potentially tearing when dropping the house? Had a 5600 Clam before with the plastic floor, first house with an exposed floor, looking for best ways to set up. Thanks, cjac
Tom Linderholm
I was out on Sunday in some 30+ winds in my voyaguer, I had to bury my flaps twice as the first one was not enough. Then I poured water out of my whole all around it. Did the trick and did not have an issue ripping it out. Although next time I'll be using my Sanchors so that won't be an issue. cjac
1. I'm jealous you were out. 2. I admire you for being out in 30 mph winds. 3. I would have been too. 4. Weekend forecast down here (cities) calls for wind with the arriving cold air front. I'll still be out. 5. Are Sanchors the kind where you drill an extra hole and drop the "cleat" in? I suppose even at 100 lbs + gear and anglers, the house will move with no snow cover in 30 mph winds. I was thinking more of the snow flaps catching wind and causing drafts...... Seabass77
After you poke the holes with a hot nail, what do you use to fasten the holder?
Tofishem
Clam Corp supplies the plastic fasteners. It helps to have 2 people. One inside and one outside. Bruce
