DaveHastingsMi
I was talking to a Cabelas salesman sunday about the Marcum LX-3 and he told me that it didn't work very well in shallow water (15' or less) because it was to powerfull that it would show lots of clutter. Has anyone here had a problem with this or heard of this. Thanks, Dave
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted December 14, 2004 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted December 14, 2004 I fished on Lake of the Woods this weekend in 14' of water and the LX3 worked flawlessly. That is also about as fertile-dirty water as you will find anywhere. If it was going to happen anywhere, it would happen there. The guy from Cabelas is obviously a rookie who hasn't used the LX3 or LX1.
Paul Waldowski
Nope, Never, ever had that problem. Sometimes those salesmen will stretch things a bit in order to get you to buy what they want you to buy.
Dan Wood
That is bunk, I fish with my LX-3 all of the time in shallow water with no "clutter" issues. I've also fished with the lower power models and didn't notice any difference in shallow. More than likely this sales guy just doesn't know any better. wishiniwerefishin
I can say that at the Cabelas in EGF, I have sold more LX-3's this year than Vex's. The guys in the fishing dept have even convinced me to get a marcum instead of the vex that i was set on. You really can not go wrong with it, ask around here and the guys will let you know. Ya Hey Der
I've fished in 6ft of water and had no problems w/ my lx3. I even used my zoom function in 6ft and this worked just fine. No clutter at all, what a great unit. A couple of guys who I fish with have now switched over to the lx3 after seeing mine in action. If you are having a tough time making up your mind, come to one of the ice fishing get togethers and I am sure there will be plenty of folks with either the vex or the lx3. I will be at the White Bear event so you can definitely check out the Lx3 there and I know Goin Fishin (has the FL18) will be there too so you might be able to do a side by side comparison. Good luck! YHD
dogsNroosters
Go with the LX3. No clutter issues. The Marcum service and warranty people are top notch if you ever do have a problem with their equipment.
LMITOUT
Last year I decided to buy the suppression cable for my Vexilar FL-8 and glad I did as it gives me more flexibility with the gain. With the typical shallow lakes I fish the sensitivity knob is rarely a quarter-turn from 0 and now I can turn it up more which allows for better fine-tuning adjustments. Northlander
The Last week or so Ive been fishing anywhere from 8' to 16' of water and havent had a single problem with my LX-3. Its not a issue for me!
CNY Tim
It's absolutely amazing in 40' or less water. Weeds in shallow water not a problem with the LX-3. Pick those hogs right out of there in zoom. Crystal clear display and target separation the likes I have never seen with any other flasher. The MarCum revolution has come east to NY. Thank you MarCum!
Pete Riola
The Marcum is engineered so well that you don't need a suppression cable. I fished walleye on Rainy in 5 feet of water in some saddles connected to main land the walleye were there and the LX3 showed them to me. I wish I could say that I planned on getting the walleyes in 5ft but I was fishing an area I had limited knowledge of and I started punching holes in what I thought was 12 feet or so...turned out that I dumbed into 7 walleyes living incredibly shallow caught 3 big crappie there too. Ray Esboldt
I actually thought I had a better picture in heavy weeds with the LX-3 than what an FL-8 has shown me in the past. It doesn't filter out the weeds, they're still there. But, it didn't show them as one, red, gigantic clump portrayed by an FL-8. There was some separation in there. So, you could see a fish "flickering" through the weeds without turning the gain so low your bait disappeared..
