0 Deitz Dittrich
I have an IBM at home and a Mac at work. I think what I have is an E-Mac. Its one of the newer ones. As for internet and photo stuff.. I believe the Mac is actually better at photo stuff... The only thing I notice different as far as net stuff is I cant play a lot of the short movies on my mac(like the Hot bites video's).. its probably that I dont have the right programs however. 0 irvingdog
Dude: You just need to download the proper software. I always watch the videos.I use a G5 (my wife is a graphic designer) and it is quite nice. When we went from v9.2 to OS10, it was a little confusing, but it is amazing now.Like the saying goes;"The error code read use windows 98 or better, so I bought a Mac". 0 TV BOY
I know part of my problem is my OS which is the rare and notorious windows ME. (which I think was out for the one month in which we got our computer). Not being the most computer savy I was wondering if the mac would be easier to work with and is there software available to recieve or convert files such as microsoft Word or excell files. 0 chunkytrout
TVBoy, an invite to spew!!!! I own 3 macs. Older powerbook, a hotrod G3 iMac for internet and media, and a G4 Grey runs my ProTools. I tell ya, I just turn them on and get to work. They're creative friendly because that's macs main platform. If you want to run a business or a server with one, then you're in for challenge. If you want to create music, audio, video. images, and combine them all don't waste another minute. Many of todays multimedia apps were and are mac native. There's a few windows machine out there aimed towards this. Alienware is one I've been keeping an eye on. Another mac thang is price. But if you want serious processor power, you pay for it. OK windows folks, let me have it. I know I have it coming. Back to your ?. The new EMac 1.25Ghz, 1.25Ghz iMac , and if you want the MacDaddy the new dual 2.25 Ghz can't be beat. More processor than you and I combined will ever need. 0 irvingdog
Also......there are not alot of virus' around pestering Macs.
0 upnorth
The reason that there is no viruses out there for macs is there is not enough macs out there for the hackers/virus writing geeks to bother with Microsoft should have had a recall on Windows ME That has to be the worst Operating System out there. Upgrade to Window XP and most of your problems will be gone. XP is much more stable than the rest of the operating systems out there. One problem that I see with macs it when you move up versions, the new OS will not support some of the old software so you wind up buying new software instead of being able to use your old applications. And yes you can get MS office for macs, we have it at work. But not all the applications versions will open the data files from the windows based PCs, we wind up doing alot of conversion for our marketing staff that uses macs. Yep, not the business savy computer for sure. Also, the main OS problem is from 9.2 to OSX. The solution is having both OS's on the same drive. Boot up with the OS you need for the app. Yes, that can be a pain sometimes. All pains aside however, I'll stick with me Macs!
0 upnorth
We have as the base OS, OSX and emulate 9.2 for some of the old apps, but when you have someone using them like that it creates a lot of whining on their part. If desk space was not an issue they would have a mac for graphics work and a Windows PC for comunication work. Just not feasible
