What area are you in? Over in the Glenwood area some of the ponds skimmed over last night, but the lakes are fighting it off. It has to be getting close though...have not noticed the steam in the morning rising off the surface of Minnewaska, although a fellow worker said that Amelia was steaming this morning (it is a deeper lake). I would think if it stays on track with the cooler temps and the wind gives us a break we should see the smaller lakes cap over in the next week or so.

Were in the Nevis area and it's just the smaller lakes that are skimming over but it's a start. The wind was calm this morning and we had 20 degree on the thermometer, it would be nice if we could get below -0 temps for awhile to build some clear ice at a faster pace.

I did see one small lake North of St. Paul that had ice on half the lake. If we have wind or if the temps are going to be in the mid to upper 30's with sun it might be a few weeks.

Be safe, no fish is worth that much, even if you don't like the guy in front of you.

Didn't take long for an ice accident: From the Star Tribune

Boy hospitalized after falling through ice

Associated Press

November 24, 2004 ICEFALL1125

PARK RAPIDS, Minn. -- A 4-year-old boy remained hospitalized today after falling through ice near his home southeast of Park Rapids.

Adam Thompson was at MeritCare Children's Hospital in Fargo, N.D., on Thursday, but his parents have asked that no other information be released, said hospital spokeswoman Kaycee Stenger.

The Hubbard County sheriff's office received a 911 call at 5:10 p.m. Monday about the boy falling through ice on a pond.

According to the sheriff's office, the boy had left his mother's side while both were outside their home. Jill Thompson and her son were feeding the dog when the boy walked to the pond and onto thin ice.

When a neighbor, Rusty Uscola, heard the mother yell for help, he grabbed his cell phone and drove to the home. Jill Thompson tried to rescue her son but also broke through the ice. She was making her way back to shore when Uscola arrived.

A sheriff's dispatcher talked Uscola through administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the boy.

Both mother and son were taken to St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids. Jill Thompson was treated and released while her son was airlifted to MeritCare.
