I used an Optima blue top for two years and it was the best battery for pulling around my Ranger with a PD55 12v. Now, it was a little spendy, but at the end of the day that battery still had gas in the tank. My new Alumacrafts came pre-rigged so I didn't have a chance to choose batteries, but once they die I'm sure the Optima line will get another try. Nav

I run Dual Pro, Lightning Series, sealed batteries. These puppies are pricy at $230.00 a piece, but I have never had a dead battery and I have run them a few days straight without them going dead. Supposedly they will last about 500 charges. I figured if this is true, they will pay for themselves after 5 years.

I have had many battery brands over the years and the best battery I have had (non-orbital) is a Trojan. Reasonably priced and available at many retailers. I am on my 4th year of my current trolling more battery and I use it year round.

Look up Battery City in the yellow pages, they are off Broadway in Mpls (2nd or 3rd Ave/St.). Great battery prices

They sell Trojan batteries and an off-brand battery that is better and less costly than Trojan...weight rules with trolling batteries....good luck

I agree with BIG. Most people use the standard flooded cell battery type. (More expensive types are gel, AGM, Nickel Zinc). For flooded cell type, I think weight rules too. I have had good luck with the Resolute brand sold at Mills Fleet. I think the price is either $65 or $75. Just make sure you almost get a hernia lifting it.

The most important thing is to take care of your batteries. Recharge them as soon as possible after each use, but don't overcharge them. It is not good for a deep cycle battery to sit around in a discharged state, even if it is only 20 or 30 pct.

Kodiak, I bought a Minnkota battery in 97 when I got my autopilot trolling motor. Don't know who mfgr. was then, or now. "Thought" it was great, until I replaced it with the Mills Fleet battery. Similar size and price, but the Mills battery lasts much longer on the water. Course, part of that is I recharge, and don't overcharge, regularly now.

Also, I believe the Minnkota battery was old to begin with. Don't buy a battery that has a thick layer of dust on it. Make sure the seller is turning his inventory. At Mills, I get one from the back of the rack. Maybe that doesn't matter, but at least it makes me feel like I got the freshest. And who doesn't like that just-fresh feeling? grin.gif
