Got one!!!

Recommended Posts

At approximatley 4:20 this afternoon I bagged my first black bear. It weighed in at just a little over 200lbs. The best part of the whole thing is my buddy got it all on video!!! One shot, and it only got 20 yards before she dropped. In 6-9 months I will be laying on my very own bear rug!!! I hope this thread gets filled up, I'd love to hear your success stories.

Fishing Bud - It was a gun kill, it was my first time Bear hunting and wanted to make sure that the nerves didn't get the better of me in the stand. I thought it better to have a little more distance between me and the bait for the first one. I am hunting a no quota zone and I think I just might try the bow for my second tag.

Gateway Store at Kabetogama registered something like 40 bear by 8pm this evening.

The bear were all shot in areas 107 or 115.

The prize bear so far, a 330 chocolate bear.

Sorry no spectacular stories that I,ve heard of. Wish the fishing was as good as the bear hunting.

Congrats Setterguy! I also got my first bear Monday, pretty much same story as yours, one shot, the bear went about 20 yards as was dead. Only I had to sit in the stand all day without seeing anything until about 7:45pm when a smaller bear, about 150lbs came in. Seconds later this big one comes in and pushes the small one out of sight, then might heart must have been beating so loudly, that, the bear heard it, and it looked right at me. She was just about to bolt, when it turned and gave me the glimse of the shot I was looking for. It ended up being 11pm before we got the bear out of the wood and into the truck.

I'll give an indepth report in the future, but for now I want to keep reading everyone's experiences on this thread!

Congratulations setterguy!

I'm still working on taking my first bear. I had one coming in and cleaning out my bait, but I'm afraid someone may have shot that bear opening night. frown.gif I'll know for sure tomorrow morning. I'm using a gun also, a muzzleloader, in fact I bought it from Sand Burr. Hoping to have that bear over for dinner Sunday night. grin.gif

Congrats setterguy! Nice job. I would highly recomend you try bow too. I took my first bow kill last year on a 200 boar, greatest thrill of my hunting life, he came into a bacon burn at fifteen yrds. Again great job. Later, Boar
