Lawrence Luoma
I just picked up a Clam Big foot XL 2000 Hub for my family to fish in. Let's see some mods and how people have theirs setup!! I would like to get some ideas for seating, lighting and anything else that has made fishing from a hub shack easier.
DLD24
For lights use those firebright LED rope lights.. They light the shack up awesome
MNCPRGUY
I learned this from you Lawrence! Less is more! The only mods I did for my hub is add figure 9s to the outside anchor points, ultimate ice anchors, and paracord with small carabiners. I can anchor in seconds with no knots. On the inside, I use Clam coat hooks and a Clam rechargeable light.
fishwater
Less is more! MNCPRGUY - what? No pictures of you fabulous window mods? For HUB fishing I have an otter box tricked out with a couple of 12v lithium batteries for lights, stereo and charging potential. I have a couple of samsung 5630 rigid light bars stored in the box available to stick behind poles quickly as necessary.

Lusid
Added a simple switch and light/fan setup.. cost was like 15bux
fishwater
I have a pair of Ameristep Ice Chairs, standard camping chair with features tuned to ice fishing. They are OK, and have held up fairly well only requiring a few minor repairs. The plastic on the feet has been more durable than all the other types I've tried. Typically I use the simple 3-legged stool with back. They aren't super comfortable, but they pack small. I like how you can roll off the stool onto your knees quickly. I haven't found a nicer model that holds up, these are pretty much disposable like the shelters IMO.
minnesotahusker
I bring out the foam mats for exercise. They're 2'x2', a little bulky in the sled but it helps keep the inside a lot warmer, plus the kids don't kick snow everywhere and it's easier on the knees unhooking fish. MNCPRGUY
Quote: What are u using for seats? The girls didn't like the folder camp chairs. I use the Clam chairs and like them a lot. I've never actually used the cooler underneath them for anything and could probably just as well remove that part if I were looing to trim things down. I like that you set upright in them if not a little forward. Much better position for ice fishing than slouched back in a typical camp chair. Didn't even consider the tripod chairs because I wanted a backrest. I am 300 lbs and have sat in them all day. My wife and three kids have also used them with no complaints. MNCPRGUY
Quote: MNCPRGUY - what? No pictures of you fabulous window mods? I'm growing kinda fond of my duct tape mod. The triangular shapes look like slow moving vehicle signs and the silver matches the Clam blue nicely.
deerminator
They're a little spendy but Clam sent me a couple of those flip over shelter hanging organizers when I realized by 4000 didn't have the overhead cargo nets. They strap on nicely to the hubs in the corners and even have hooks to hang your coats from. They're very handy to just keep all your essential gear in and its not laying around inside your shelter. Naturboy
I do a set up like this then put my pop up right over it. The sled holds tackle under the seat a bucket, 1 pounders, my auger on top of the sled then my shelter straps on top of the auger.

ilovehardwater
Natureboy, NICE setup!! did you fabricate the box or was it pre fabricated?? I see some nice dovetail joints on the corners of the box. Do you have 2 of these? It looks like you have 2 different boxes there.
Lusid
Went from hub shack's -> sleds. Derailment achieved
Lunker Luke
I like that.

Notice the different ski's and that one has 4 rod holders and the other has 6. Also did you notice the custom dovetailed box for his depthfinder. Savage Brewer
I personally dont mind the derailment to sleds, as natureboys design has me thinking about some summer woodworking projects. As far as tricking out a hub, I think its difficult because of how you want to fold it back into its bag for transport or storage. Flip overs and perms are easier to mod by design. As far as my hub goes and the previous one I had, I just have several LED lights I hang along with a small clam fan.
Naturboy
Hubs fold up so it would be hard to modify that's why I use the sled with mine. The sled holds everything I need to fish with and I put the shelter over the sled so I have tackle and bait in the shelter with me. The sled has strip lights on the side you can't see, and the sled is also a seat for the shelter. The smaller sled is one I made for a silent auction and just used pictures to show different angles. When I go out I don't have to carry any anything.
DarthBaiter
Went from hub shack's -> sleds. Derailment achieved I don't think it was a derailment as much as other posts. He asked for hub mods for seating as well. The sled not only pulls hub and all gear but doubles as a tricked out seat and power station with great woodwork to boot. Lawrence Luoma
There hasn't been any derailment at all. This is basically what I was asking about. Like I said I got this for fishing with my kids. I'm trying to come up with ideas for seating, tables, lights, heating and etc. This isn't about necessarily fishing but more of where are my kids going to put there snacks down, keep there feet out of the water, a place where they can play a game on my iphone so I can fish an extra hour and so on. Custom seating like that just might be the right way to go as I'm not to worried about weight with the kids as the truck will always be close by. Keep it coming and thanks for the ideas so far!! Naturboy
On one of my hubs that didn't come with anchor straps I tied some 1/8 inch rope to the hub eyes. Then use (the same kind of a set up like they use on most camping tents) a flat piece of metal or wood with two holes drilled in it just slightly bigger than the line is. I couldn't agree more. I typically store my hub, chairs, heater, etc in an otter sled. When I get on the ice, I drill holes, pop the hub, and then unload everything from the sled into the house. Now I'm thinking I need to customize the sled; not necessarily the house. The sled setup would just get pulled inside the house and become part of the furniture essentially. I guess it's similar to the flip over shelters in concept. Another thought I'm having is a roll-up rod bag of sorts that could be hung from the corners. Similar to the Clam bags that some are using but it would hang down a bit further and hold a few rods. I currently use one of those Clam organizers in my flip and hang rods from it using rod slicks and the hooks that are on it. All the portables at the Thorne Bros mod event last Fall were flips I believe. I'm betting there will be a hub or two at the next event!!! :-)
