jigboy
I just got a 4000T house and popped it up. Two of the roof supports are always bowed down instead of up. I took it down and put it up more than once and always have the same problem. The hubs locked but two supports are always sagging. Anyone else have this problem? I cant see how its going to stay up in wind and snow. I might need to exchange it for a different one, it might not be made right.
Brad B
Contact Clam's customer service. there was a issue with some of these last year but I don't remember the details. it was talked about on here before so do a search for threads on the XL4000T. MNCPRGUY
I had the same problem last year. Clam exchanged it without question.
walleye 4 me
Same problem last year. The poles were too long so they wouldnt extend. Said I could send it back to be replaced or pop the poles out myself and trim them. I went that route and they sent me a free pair of gloves for my troubles. took about 5 minutes with the hacksaw. Steve@CLAM
jigboy, walleye 4 me is correct. It's a very easy fix. Call our CS and they'll walk you through it. If you'd prefer an exchange, we'll do that too. 763-231-4120. We made the decision internally to do a 100% inspection on these to make sure this isn't a problem going forward, but about 150 units were shipped before the decision was made. Shouldn't be too many out there from this year with a problem (I'm guessing under 20 of over 5000 shipped), but we'll certainly take care of it if there is an issue. jigboy
I talked to the store where I bought the house and they were aware from clam there might be a few houses with problems. They offered to exchange it so that's what I'm going to do. Nice to get info from everyone. Can't wait to get the new one and try it out. Looks like a great house. Savage Brewer
I was at Clam's facility on Friday and they had about 10 guys there opening every 4000T and custom trimming the poles on all of them. I believe they have now called back all dealer inventory, so hopefully any new ones purchased from here forward should be good. The trimming of the poles looks pretty easy once I saw how it was done. JohnMickish
It is a very easy thing to do. Production tolerances are the issue with everything now days.
TruthWalleyes
Two things i've noticed on my XL4000T after setting it up ONLY twice. #1. 2nd time out on the ice, i noticed the exterior hub eyelets where you would attach the anchor ropes for each side, those eyelets are rusted, BLeeding red rust...AFTER 1 time on the ice 7 days prior. Clam is overpaying for the plating on those eyebolts. That is hilariously terrible, how do you miss that! #2. Looked at the cealing hub yesterday. FOund a crack. This looks like a short fishing trip waiting to happen. I've used hub houses the last 3 years and did not stress anything the two times this has been setup. Lastly, They need to make their windows velcro so you can open them. Anyone who has spend more than a darn hour in a fish house knows the windows freeze up and you can't see through them. Rather than scrape the ice off the window, which usually is only effective for a few seconds, make velcro on the windows so you can open them. Most importantly, the windows works GREAT as vents. The doors don't, cuz there is nothing to hold them open unless they are completely open. SERIOUSLY CLAM> VELCRO WINDOWS. Biggest beef between clam and eskimo for me are the windows. The dinky vents let heat out, but exchange little air. Rant over. Not suprised i'm not 100% satisfied with my clam after last year's clam incident with the command post (s) multiple problems. Oh, and there was minimal dripping as the thermal fabric apparently can become saturated with condensation.
