Probably for liability purposes. What if a guy used it on his boat and it said ten feet and he dove head first into 3 feet of water. Lawsuit.

Probably for safety. A lot of people use Vexilars on their boat (myself included). The display for the DD 100 has a 3 second delay. If you weren't watching the screen and only relying on the DD it could be a safety hazard. I trust my Vexilar over my Lowrance in the river for sure. It's real time! Saved my prop a ton!

I got out on the ice tonight and must say I really like seeing the depth on the DD-100.Was worth the cost to upgrade both of my Vexilars.

Picked up the 3 double D 100's last night. Sounds like a little extra work on the Ultra Packs to install but I guess after putting it on the 18 the 20 and 22 will be simple.

I also like the addition to my vexilar, I took the battery meter and installed it in the HSOList.

I picked up one black Friday for $40 at Joes. It installed easily on my FL-8 and I hooked it right into the positive hookup instead of using the piggy back. I used it all day long Saturday without issues. This is an effective addition for both depth read out and battery levels.

Went out last night in 6 foot of water. Switched both my vexilars into low power mode and both read 68.0 feet. When I first turned them on in normal mode they both read correctly at 6 foot.

I read it somewhere....It will not work in Low Power mode or with units equipped with s-cables (S-140 suppression cable)

Went out today and one my dd-100`s won`t read the depth anymore. Its on an fl-20 with the tri beam. It wont read in normal mode at all. Put it in low power mode and it reads 67.0 foot .I was in 13 foot. Shut it of and back on a few times and still would not work. Bought these at Scheels a month or so back. Threw away my receipt.

Can it be hooked up to a vexilar double vision?

Don't see why not. It attaches to the transducer port in the back of the head unit.

I had problems using it at home also,,,,contacted Vexilar and this is what was saidDD-100 Not Working It would read 68 ft on low power but worked fine at the deepest depth setting in the air test.

So I emailed Pat at Vexilar here is his reply

Properly testing the DD-100 depends on how your trying to get the

reading to show up. Testing it, through an air test, is 50/50 at best.

You have to do it a certain way with different sonar's to get a depth

reading and it still isn't easy to do. The DD-100 is not designed to

work in air. Get it down to the lake and in the water (deeper than 3

feet) before you determine if it works or not. You need to get a

good/steady bottom reading before the digital depth will show properly.

I had switched the head units between the 20 & 22. The 22 has the tri beam transducer and the 20 has the pro view transducer. I switched the head units back and it works great now. Wierd

Well, for me, I don't get it. Spend 50.00 on something that only runs right in normal mode when I often fish in LP mode just doesn't seem right!

Corey what transducer are you running on the 22? I've been looking at the DD-100 and a new ducer but not sure what one to get.

If you only use your Vex for ice fishing, then you don't need to know the depth on a continuing basis and a quick depth check at turn on is all that is needed before turning on the LP mode. And I'm not sure what percentage of Vex users are using their Vex on a boat, but I would assume very, very few. I certainly wouldn't and I haven't seen a flasher type depth finder on a boat in at least 30 years. So for me - and me alone - I don't see this a BIG problem. I'm very happy with the addition of the DD-100 to my FL 20.

As far as the depth reading in LP mode it's not that big of a deal for me. If I'm hole hopping looking for weeds or fish I run in the normal mode. Once I find a spot and know the depth and switch to LP I know what the depth is anyway. It's pretty easy in my opinion. A 50 dollar add on, worth every penny!
