Mr. Ice Fishing himself, Dave Genz started the mobile fishing concept. He designed the first Fish Trap and many companies followed. Working off Genz’s original concept a legend was born. The “Legend Thermal” has all an angler will need and want in a one person shelter. Full thermal top, lightweight design, rod storage and deluxe seat system to name a few features. Genz himself put his stamp of approval making this the best one person shelter on the market hands down. I think we know which one he will be fishing out of this ice season!

i'm actually thinking about getting one. whats the price and pack size about the same as my scout tc. also why dont they show the seats in the catalog is it a seat removable thanks

retail price is $399.99

the pack size is exactly the same as a scout. they use the same sled. only difference is the scouts has the seat facing away from the end of the sled and with the Legend it faces away from the side of the sled.

the lay out of the Legend is shown on page 6 of the catalog and the lay out of the Scout is shown on page 7

here is a link to the catalog :

http://catalog.clamoutdoors.com/index.php?level=album&id=5

the seat is removable in the Legend. it is the deluxe seat and not the swivel seat that is in the scout.

the Legend Thermal is the house I will be running this season.

Brad what made you go with legend thermal ? i'm torn between the legend and the x1 can't decide on which one, booth are nice ,i'll have to check them out on the 28 at the GTG,

I went with the Legend over the X1 because of the height. Legend is 67 inches tall and the X1 is only 59 inches tall. I like the fact that I can basically stand up(I'm 5' 7" so my head would just be touching the roof) in the Legend and not have to bend over like I would if I was in the X1. I like the fact that the X1 has the heavier material and the heavier duty sled but I will give that up to have more head room. I kind of wish they would of made the X1 67 inches tall and the Legend 59 inches tall. if that was the case I would have went with a X1. regardless both are nice houses and people will find what works best for their style of fishing. I am just happy to finally have a full thermal one man house.

Unless sizes have changed, the Legend pack size should have a smaller footprint than the Scout. I know that is the case with the Pro vs. the Scout so assuming it's the same with the Legend.

here is the specs from the catalog. the pack size of the Scout and Legend are exactly the same.

http://catalog.clamoutdoors.com/index.php?level=picture&id=145

both are 43 inches long X 35 inches wide X 14 inches tall (this is the pack size)

setup size on the Legend is 43 inches wide X 92 inches long X 67 inches tall

setup size on the Scout is 35 inches wide X 88 inches long X 56 inches tall

Then why do they require different size travel covers?

Here is more information from the catalog:

Yes, they have the same size sled which is the "pack size" quoted in the catalog and in your post. The DIFFERENCE is the scout poles do not collapse so they stick out from the sled when packed. Since the poles stick out, it makes the actual pack size larger thus requiring a larger travel cover.

So no, the actual real life pack size of the scout and legend are not exactly the same.

I would bet they are the same pack size. Difference is that the scout travel cover is pretty tight on the scout. In fact I run a pro travel cover on my scout tc because I don't like a super tight fit. With the extend poles there is no way a scout cover would fit on the legend. Pack size really has nothing to do with the travel cover as its how it stretches over the poles.

I'm afraid that's not right.

Since the 2 are built on exactly the same sled, the difference is how the tent is mounted to the sled. The Scout is mounted on the short side of the sled while the Legend is mounted on the long side. It's true that the poles on the Scout do not collapse, but since it is mounted on the short side of the sled, the poles nest nicely on the back of the sled when collapsed. They have different covers because of where the pole mounting brackets are on the sled. Each cover is cut to fit over these brackets, so they cannot be interchanged.

Looked at the legend thermal at Gander and I like it better than the X1

It just matters how your going to transport your house. If it's be pulled on behind you snowmobile or atv then go with the X1 as its a more durable. If you got a rack system and/or pulling by hand your gonna want to go with Legend. It's only six pound difference but that a lot in deep snow.

This is my new favorite one man!!!

totally agree with you Kevan. I can't get over the floor space and height inside that this house offers plus the weight is still light enough to be pulled by hand. that light bar inside is also a nice feature. to me the light bar should be a standard feature on all the sled/flip over style houses from now on.
