Stay off the ice

No one stepped on anyones toes. Luke AKA Lrod is just giving everyone a heads up. This time of year every one is chomping at the bit to get out and walk on the water. Every year we hear of accidental deaths of our brothers and sisters of the sport. Always a tragic moment!!! Please think of his advise he cares as we all do. Please be safe. A life Jacket and a safety plan should be number one on anyones list that are venturing out.

Our lakes on the southern part of the cities just skimed over the other day. I hope this snow opens them back up for a good freeze tonight.

Please be careful and Thanks Luke for the reminder to all of us.

So I just took the dog for a walk here in Maple Grove. Must be approaching the foot mark now - with more to come tonight i guess. I am thinking the local lakes around here have had very little ice and those with any ice will have that ice "sunk" by all this snow. 12 inches plus is a lot of weight. Additionally, it came straight down with no wind, and its very wet and heavy snow. I know for sure that Tonka is open...so at least have that option smile

i was out friday we had 4.5 inches of good ice half hr north of st.cloud

now with the snow i am shure it isnt safe but i heard we r suppose to get low temps and wind so is that a good thing?

i am hopeful that the snow will blow off or atleast some of the snow will blow off

i have been out 2 times so far and both times most ppl told me to stay off the ice but i deceded to check it out anyhow

i say be safe check the ice befor you go out and only go on lakes you know and never go alone i am shure this snow didnt help but weather looks like it is gonna help

Waterfowl, you mean after 12 inches of snow...the lake had perfect ice?

Thats hard to believe? Or maybe your in an area that didnt get much snow?

I am thinking like the prior posts said that central MN is going to be very difficult fishing this year. If I am not mistaken its the 3rd year in a row....maybe even 4th? where we had just a few inches of ice and then a ton of snow.

Sets things up for slush covered ice, poor ice making after that, and difficult travel over the lake.

I am just hopeful that the lakes around the cities here a little further sout had very little or no ice cover before the big snow. I am sure at least Tonka - or most of it was ice free before the snow.
