Ice/Fishing Report w/ Pics

Dave Genz, Rick Johnson and I fished western MN the past few days having some success. We fished two smaller lakes and found 3 to 6 inches of ice. Also, seems like most others in that area were finding areas to get out and ice some fish as well. Still, caution is needed, as bigger lakes could still have open water or have thin ice due to the constant winds we have been getting. So, use those chisels - were some cleats and wear your ice picks - have a throwable and a life jacket - and always go with a buddy.

The fishing was so-so, where we did find and catch some quality fish. Numbers were not huge, but, pulling some fish up through the holes was all that mattered.

This trip was our first time getting to use the new Ion auger. Both Dave and I ran one and were very impressed by their ease of use, weight, cutting speed and how well it finished through the hole with no binding. We drilled lots of holes and our batteries were in good shape, hardly losing any juice. Now, just need some deep ice to put them through the paces! First try, definitely an A+.

Oh, and for those thinking of sled lights for your shack - after this trip, they are now a MUST. After seeing Dave and Rick use theirs for pack-up and take down, its a no brainer for early morning and late evening trips.
