College Ice Fishing

Hi Guys,

I am currently attending Iowa State University and I am also on the fishing club. We are going to entering the FLW Collegiate bass fishing series and I hope it will be a great experience. Since ice fishing is my favorite type of fishing to do. I had an idea of maybe starting something similar to the FLW Collegiate series and making an Ice fishing collegiate series if there is anything like this. It is just an idea and was wondering what people have to say about this. I thought the Ice Team members would be a great group to talk to about this.

I currently attend the University of Wisconsin River Falls and may be transferring to a larger school. I've always had the idea of starting something like this. I would be interested in say a newer tournament format for college kids: North American Ice Fishing College Championships (NAIFCC). I feel that it would be an idea that could catch on quickly with the northern states, especially because there are a lot of kids that I know who like to ice fish...

I have a friend that also goes to ISU and is on the fishing team and its amazing how far the College Bass fishing program has come in the last 5 years. Now its creeping into the high school setting and my son will soon be old enough to be involved with it and I am very much looking forward to it.

I'd love to see ice fishing with a similar program and popularity as I know my kids would also love to be involved in it in the future. Keep us updated on how this comes along cause I am very much interested in it.

I started a club at ndsu this fall with intentions of fishing the flw and BASS. I know that it would get participation up here in North Dakota. Shoot me an email at [email protected] I will try and help you out in any way I can. The guys I have talked to up here want to do ice fishing tournaments within the club and I am sure they would love to compete against other schools.

It sounds like an awesome idea! I think if it involves smaller colleges and universities you wouldn't have a hard time getting schools all across the ice belt to get involved in this!
