Help! I Lost a Bunch of Equipment

Recommended Posts

I pulled the bonehead award today and forgot to shut the tailgate on the truck today on my way home to sioux falls from lake madison today (Sun. 12/7). The equipment includes a two person Eskimo flip type shack (green material with black sled base), a Vexilar Fl-8, and a Strikemaster gas auger.

I drove from Walkers Point to Hwy 19 to Humboldt, then went to Hartford and turned towards Wall Lake corner and then home. Unfortunately this whole trip home was after dark so I didn't notice it had fallen out until I got home. I drove back to Madison on the same route very slowly but unfortunately, did not find anything. I didn't come across any debris on the road though so I'm hoping it may have dropped out when I took off from a stop sign somewheres along the way and some honest person picked it up.

If anybody knows of anybody saying they found any of this, I'd be greatly appreciative and would give a reward to whomever returns it.

Hey Greebs,
I saw your post this morning, so over my noon hour I drove down to Walker's Point and looked again for you. Sorry to say I didn't find anything. I'll keep my ears open up here, and if I hear anything I'll let you know.

Greebs:

Give me a call at my bait & tackle store, Dakota Angler. I have some info for you. The phone number is 336-9132. If I'm not there, ask my employee of the phone number that is taped to the till. This gentleman stopped by the shop yesterday and said he found some stuff in Hartford, so it sounds like your stuff. Hope it is!! Good Luck!

All the equipment has been found and was not damaged. I was fortunate enough that it fell out of the truck right in Hartford rather than on the highway where I'm sure most of it would have been destroyed had it fallen out at highway speed (or even worse could have caused an accident). Even more fortunate for me is that an honest person found it and took the time to try to find the owner. (And I even had to work a little just to convince him to take a small reward for his work.)

Thanks again HOF and Wxman

Greebs,

I feel your pain. Last year on the way home from Yankton, my fish trap scout flew out of the back of my pickup. I was sick when I got out of the truck, and headed to the road to access the damage. I ended up with a road-rashed fish trap(not bad at all) a broken Vex battery, and damaged transducer. I lost a few rods and reels, an Arctic Warrior tip-up, and 2 magnetic tip ups. My hand auger recieved a few dents, but still works. My Buddy heater must have taken the brunt of the impact, it was in about 4 million pieces.

So remember to make sure everything is tied down before heading out on the road. It still upsets me, and I'm feeling a little sick right now!

I'm glad you got all of your stuff. I once left a gun leaning against a fence on public land on opening day of pheasant season. I went back to look for it and found a note with a phone number.

Thanks to honest and friendly people we both got our stuff back.

I watched this story from Greebs first post to today. Wow what a great ending. Sure gives a person the warm and fuzzies in a male sportsman sort of way. Good luck to all this weekend. I'll be hunting pheasants on Saturday and ice fishing on Sunday. I purchase a Mr buddy heater last night from Runnings and I looking forward to staying warm and cozy in my new used Ice shack.

got home from work the other day and there was a message from a gal in Madison who saw my 'lost' announcement in the Madison newspaper and matched it up with the 'found' announcement that was listed in the Argus Leader. She just wanted to make sure that I had noticed the Argus ad since she had put two and two together on that. Feels good to have had so many people looking out for me.

Guess I shouldn't complain now if I don't catch another fish all winter!!

I feel for you greebs, I lost a set of goose decoys out the back of my truck two years ago. Never founf them until last year when one of my friends were at a pawn shop and found them in the same bag that had my id tag attached. Some one got some quick cash. I am just glad that you got your stuff back. The hardest part of this situation would have been to try and explain to the wife that you need to go and spend a bunch of money and not miss the season..

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
