Welcome Ifishsd!

We need more on the water/ice coverage in SD. I get down that way early and late in the ice season but not much in the dead of winter. It will be great to have more up to date reports.

Any of the ponds up near Lake City crusting over enough to creep out on yet?

I'm in Sioux Falls, SD. I work for a computer company. I grew up in Worthington ,MN.

I have not done much fishing this fall. I went in September a couple of times with little luck. No ice in South Dakota with Temperatures getting back into the 50's won't be any ice for awhile. Take a look at my profile for a link to my homepage.

Greatings from west river. I live on a ranch 60 miles east of Sturgis. It was almost 60 today so I guess we'll just have to stick to the deer hunt. Not much else on this side guys but keep the reports from your side coming. By the way I've only met one other west river guy on here in 2 years are there any others out there, if so let me know.

Hey west river....im a little of both, live right on the river so i guess i get the best of both sides. Fishing off the rocks at chamberlain has been producing some excellent walleyes the past ten days or so. I did hear since this latest cold front moved in that it has dropped off the pace little. talk to ya later. Iceman.

Most of the SD folks are just getting geared up for Deer Hunting!! One week away I recall. Welcome aboard everyone. Pretty soon we will have to do a head count to see how many new guys/gals we have. Scott Steil

Deer hunting already is open west river. East river open tomorrow in the northest part. With 60 degree temps next week deer hunting will be tough. Looks like ice fishing will be awhile yet.

Dear hunting out here in the west has been real tough due to the warm weather. The rut hasn't even started here yet, so the big boyz are laying low.

Hey ifishsd, have you heard of anything going on at the dam in Flandreau?

I was out in Butte County last weekend mulie hunting. We saw a lot of deer and a lot of immature bucks chasing does. I also have video footage of two 3x3's fighting, but the big boys are hanging back a mile or so. They were nowhere near the does. It may be a week or two. I took a decent 3x3 and my buddy missed to 4x4's.

Hello from Pierre,

I'm a recent transplant (6 months) to the prairie from St. Paul, MN. I use Fishing Minnesota on a daily/weekly basis during the ice fishing season. As you can tell, I'm over 500 miles away from my permanent shack out of Brandt's on the south side of Mille Lacs and even farther from High Banks on Winnie.

I have been goose hunting quite a bit the last month out here in Pierre. Pierre is holding around 80,000 canadians (lessors and hutchies) and 100,000 snows. The snows are probably going to be gone in the next few days as the weather continues to dip. I think we can expect some of the bigger canadians in the next few days. The weather finally feels like home as the mercury is starting to dip below 30F at night.

Sorry, no fishing report at this time because birds are still on my mind. I'm planning on purchasing a new portable in the next few weeks so I hope to head to northeastern South Dakota/Big Stone area.

Why did you move and are they still hiring?

Nice to hear from someone in Pierre. I have long believed that Pierre is very close to (if not THE) the center of the hunting/fishing Universe.

You have so much opportunity for you there, so close to town....and a 3 hour drive in either direction puts you in the Hills or in the glacial lakes.

You've got tremendous ice fishing opportunities on stock dams......just get on the right ranch.

I found a job with the SD Dept of Revenue in my field of study and took the opp.

I did go out yesterday on Lake Sharpe in Pierre and caught 6 walleyes but they were all under the 15" slot. They avg. around 12-14".
