Dotch
I always give any excess fat to Ruby and Fudgie. They love it when we grill as they know they're usually in for a treat. Really makes their coats nice and several people have commented on that. Can't say I purposely cook for them though although now you've got me thinking. I have some lamb that got stuck down in the freezer under some stuff that I might consider cooking up for them however. Has some freezer burn on it. Came out of Mom's freezer after she passed away. Luckily they're not fussy. reinhard1, bobberineyes, lovebigbluegills and 1 other
Popular Post lovebigbluegills
The only time I can recall cooking specifically for one of my dogs was this past fall for my black lab Red. His 'brother' Buck (yellow lab) had passed away a few months prior, and he was 12 and not eating like normal so I made a point of frying a couple eggs for him to put on top his food and let the yolks drip down into the lower stuff. That worked like a champ. We also gave him quite a bit of table scraps. One other time when Red was about 2 and we were bachelors, I had a kettle on the stove with 6 Johnsonvilles and a whole bag of kraut going on the stove. I had to go out to the garage and grab another beer, which took 2 minutes tops. Anyhoo, I get back in the house to see how supper is coming along, to find that he had managed to eat everything out of the kettle (minus about a forkful of kraut) in that short time without disturbing the kettle, and was laying on the floor acting innocent when I came back in the door. reinhard1, LindellProStaf, bobberineyes and 2 others
reinhard1
That pup is sure a keeper!! I don't cook anything special for Lucy, but I could say I do, like every meal I make for example. Did the same thing for Butch and Babes that we put to sleep, both at the age of 15 and just a couple months apart from each other. They were brother and sister Lab mix that we got from a shelter as pups. So I'm doing the same for Lucy who is a Choc. Lab. She basicly licks our plates when we are done. One thing I don't like giving is any chicken bones, pork bones, and only beef marrow bones. I give her some of those milk bone type dog treats at time also. good luck. bobberineyes
Theirs another guy on this page that has a dog that does the same thing lbbg . Remi is such a cheese head that it seems in away I'm smoking for him sometimes lol. Our previous lab before he passed stopped eating his food so he was served the burger and rice deal, but that's been about it home made treats or chow.. LindellProStaf
I just give my dog excess cooked fat from steaks and chops etc. Every morning when I make my sandwiches for work Sammy lays next to me. I tear of little corners of bread and throw to him. A vet told me that one of the best things for a dogs teeth is to give them frozen chicken leg quarters. He says the raw bones are alright and won't splinter like cooked ones do. I have done it an they liked them. It is an outside thing though.... What a cute pup Boar. Maybe I should have taken you up on one of them. Boar

LindellProStaf
Ya he has been quiet today. The wife must be making him finish cleaning the garage. LindellProStaf
She may have taken away his computer privileges too. She may think we are a bad influence on him. Probably more the other way around. lol OR she wasn't humored by his Friday food rebellion . I think it is funny though. leechlake
I've got patience for the outdoors but can't sit still in general life. I put HSO in it's own time out this weekend until I needed to look up a recipe one of you had posted. It was fun putting HSO in timeout, it was in timeout for not allowing posting and all the other stuff and not putting a note up stating the problem. Common courtesy never gets old. Dotch
We have my Mom's dog, a Border Collie we gave her as a present 13 years ago.We got her back when Mom got sick and the first thing Fudgie did when I was preparing some food was put her paws up on the counter beside me. That behavior is not acceptable here. To this day if we crack an egg, the dog awakens from a dead sleep. I know Mom shared lots of stuff with her so no telling what she might've eaten over the years. bobberineyes, Boar and reinhard1
Popular Post Crow Hunter
I make sweet potato treats for my dog. They sell them in pet shops, but they want a fancy price for them. I buy yams, slice them about 3/8 thick, then dehydrate the slices. Once they are done (still bendable but not spongy) my wife dips them in low-sodium chicken broth, spreads them on a cookie sheet, and pops in the oven to dry them again. We keep them in the fridge, the dog loves them, and they should be pretty healthy for the pup. Love the pics of your puppies, is there anything better than dogs? reinhard1
Don't know anything much better than a dog Crowhunter!! Thanks for that idea with the sweet potatoes. I will do this. good luck. Crow Hunter
Crow Hunter
You are welcome. I have made them with both yams and sweet potatoes, I use only yams now but I don't remember why. Maybe try both and see if the dog(s) like one or the other better. reinhard1
LindellProStaf
We usually have a bag of those small carrots in the fridge for dog snacks. They are good for them too. reinhard1
