Jim Uran
I'm not much of a camera guy, as a panfishing nut I've never had time to use one. Except for the Aqua-vu micro, which is an excellent tool for a man on the move. It fits in the pocket and offers an ability that no other camera offers, true portability. Now that I've grown accustomed to spending the day a little less mobile I'm thinking on picking up a cam that will keep the kids entertained during those slow times in the shack. Has anyone used the Marcum PanCam system? The one that uses your phone or tablet as the viewing screen?? Looks like a cool and affordable setup. DLD24
I thought i remembered hearing they had problems with it, but I could be wrong...I have the Marcum 385 and like it a lot...just make sure to get the camera panner if you do get a camera, worth every penny.... Princeton
I have a pancam and would say at first I was unimpressed and exchanged my first one as the gear in the panner broke. You have to be very careful and make sure there is enough slack in the cable so that it does not bind up, if it binds you will likely strip the gear. The one thing that I do really like is that you can hook the camera up to the tv in the house and pan the camera with my I Pad. I am not sure what your budget is for this new camera you are looking at, but I had a AV 715c & for $299 its very hard to beat for a full size color camera system! That being said, when I was robbed this year. I then upgraded to the AV760cz. That is a sweet camera. I love the zoom feature & the degrees on screen. Aqua Vu makes the best underwater camera systems out there in my opinion.
Cheetah
I have a 4 year old child that I started taking out on the ice this winter and a younger one at home. My dad bought a Marcum Pan Cam last year thinking it would keep the kids busy, and I tried using it, but was not impressed. I installed the app on my phone and it works fine above the water, but in 30' water it is just too dark even with the lights on. It might be better in shallower and clearer water. Pain in the butt to get set up too, so only really good if you plan to stay in one spot. The other problem is using the phone as the screen... The phone battery will not last all day when watching video over wifi. And I think it will very likely be dropped down the hole at some point if used a lot. The pancam has a video output so I think I need to find a dedicated video unit which can run off a regular 12v dc battery.
ClownColor
I own the Aqua Micro and though it worked great, the cord failed within a year. I think the constant use and tight cord reel put stress on the very tiny cord where it meets the camera. They should have beef that area up. If/when I replace it and it's not on, I'm going to thread something on there to protect it more.
