Elk River area lakes

This coming Friday it looks like I will have a few hours to get out and do some spearing. I don't spear this area, I usually go to the Brainerd area so I was wondering if anyone out there has some suggested lakes to try out in the Elk River area?

l should also mention, I will be walking out with my tote sled, no wheeler on this trip.

Big Lake is always a popular lake to spear full of hammer handles  water is usually clear to

Big lake is a bucket list lake for me. Not sure if I will make it out there or not this year. Orono and Twin lakes are also good options  

 

Tails and trails in Zimmerman or Ebners in Elk River should be able to point you to clear water and safe ice.

turns out that plans changed and I wasn't able to get out Friday. Went North of Brainerd Sat. and tried a small lake in the woods off the snowmobile trail. Lots of perch and only 1 22" pike that my 10yr old speared. 3:30 it started to rain, what a pain in the @ss packing up and then snowmobiling 6 miles back to the cabin in the rain.
