YettiStyle
Almost ready to take my new Yetti on its maiden voyage. What kind of grease do you use on your wheel pivots and how often do you grease them? I’ve been reading that a lot of people use synthetic marine grease but after looking at the specs on them they are only rated down to like -10 degrees. Also, any brand preferences? RebelSS
I'd use low temp PTFE or Teflon grease...you can find it at most places. I found mine at Northern....and lube "as needed", don't overdo.
Lip_Ripper Guy
I typically grease mine at the beginning and end of the season. I'd for sure recommend the end, as often times I've had all sorts of water and crud forced out, which wouldn't be good sitting in there all summer. aczr2k
Any waterproof grease will work, the type isn't that important. Actually you can use any grease, the fact that it gets greased is the important part. I use amsoil water resistant grease, I could care less about the low temp rating, its not going to freeze as long as its greased. minnbowhunter
I have had my pivots rust to the point where I had to cut them off and build new ones (my fault). I no longer trust the grease zerks, they just don't get grease all the way around like they should. I take the pivots off the axle stubs and clean and regrease with a combination of lithium grease and anti-seize compound. Its takes a little work but my axles work great. Gus
I've had on and off issues in the past. I now take them completely off and regrease fully twice a year. My last issue was after sitting all summer. My theory is that the "low temp" grease I used actually got too runny in the summer and let water in. Any grease is going to allow your pivots to move, the biggest part is just keeping contaminants out and grease in. And as another poster said, don't trust just one grease zert to actually lube the whole shaft. I've now added an extra on mine and I STILL plan on removing and re-greasing twice a year. Beats the alternative and I've been almost stranded twice! Thankfully I was able to loosen them up with a come along enough to get me down the road. FYI, I have a 2014 Salem Ice Cabin. deadduk
Look for a Mobil #1 grease with 5% moly in it. This is a great grease used for construction equipment in excavator pins and bucket pins. They moly will keep the grease from pushing out as well.
1lessdog
I use Anti seize grease. I use Permatex anti seize lubricant. This stuff never hardens and isn't effected by cold. When I put it on I pull the pivot points off the stub shaft and grind lines in the shaft so the grease cant get pushed out the ends. And it stays where I want it.
