Good Hunt (N. Dakota)

Recommended Posts

A few of my friends stopped by today. They had just returned recently from a week long pheasant and duck hunting trip. The snow and cold had the pheasant bunched up tight. Open water was hard to find, but when found, the ducks were plenty. I never hunted N. Dakota, but a 5 day Thanksgiveing hunt is in the works. For those prospective dog buyers, the GWP is quite the versatile hunting dog. Whether fur or feather, land or water, the GWP is tough to beat. Here's some pictures of thier hunt. fa8fe0dc.jpgfa8fdaa2.jpgfa8fda9e.jpgfa8fe0e5.jpg

Ducks and geese makeup a good chunk of the birds harvested over these dogs. Actually I hunted waterfowl today over one of the dogs, Jiggs. Today Jiggs went over 100 wild birds "shot over" for the season, grouse, woodcock, pheasant, sharptail, ducks, and geese. The GWP will hunt just about anything, includeing furred animals as well! Max sired the dogs shown in the pictures. Max, I do believe is NAVHDA utility prize 2. Jiggs who is shown in the pictures is a young dog, however Jiggs is a prize 1 NAVHDA utility, and also has a Hunters Retriever Title. Talking today with the owner, I learned that there are only 9 GWPs in the UKC that's achieved this. The owner has had several articles published in various magazines, a picture of Max and a rooster pheasant graceing the cover of one. I speak highly of him because of all the HARD work and training that I know is spent to achieve excellent hunting dogs. I'll give you the address to his site, I wont post a direct link due to advertiseing issues. He has videos of the dogs at work for prospective customers as well. The guy that's shooting has a pretty good aim!(me) grin.gif His address is chumpchangewires.com photo_egooseret_rt3_tn.jpg

Can it be luck,

I bought a trained dog, she's 3 years old. I decided not to get a puppy this time because I've never trained a pointer and I wanted to make sure I got a great dog.

I met the breeder at a hunt club and we worked a few dogs, all the dogs were great, but the one I bought not only was a great hunter, but her temperment is awesome. She is just a sweetheart and she's been great around my two young boys.

I plan on taking her hunting this weekend, ducks on Saturday and pheasants on Sunday. This will be our first hunt together and I can't wait.

Ole

I just got back some pictures from a recent N. Dakota hunt. I thought I'd post a few. Some of the birds held tight, I mean REAL tight. The first picture shows the dog on point. After "releasing" the dog to relocate, the birds sat tight and the dog caught them! Not both at once, but on two different points. Oh well, the score was dog-2, hunters-0. The pheasant, as you can tell by my hand was released after the dog caught it. The sharptail.....well lets say he came home with us! smile.gif Also pictured are my friend Dennis, a dog breeder and trainer. And Jiggs, a top-notch GWP. The total bird count was 26, a mixture of pheasant, sharptail, and 1 hun. All in all, this was my first trip to N. Dakota, but I hope to return again! fa5596bb.jpgfa558dce.jpgfa55910b.jpgfa55925f.jpg
