setterguy
So who is going to go and chase the clown birds around this weekend? I will be heading to Blooming Prarie, we have just about the whole county to hunt since the two guys that I am going with grew up there. They have been seeing lots and lots of birds around. I just talked to the guy today and he said that 50% of the corn is down, with acre after acre coming down by the minute!!! It looks like we are going to have some great weather. Hopefully the birds will be flying and so will the lead!! Good luck everyone, be safe shoot straight and ask permission.

wade22
I'm pretty excited for the opener. I always fill out. My dad farms our family's 1200-acre farm and I have hunted there ever since I could carry a shotgun. This year is going to be something pretty special. Another mild winter combined with the unusually dry summer should factor into the best pheasant population in two decades. I went home to bowfish last weekend and saw quite a few birds roaming about. AND the crop harvest coincides with the opener in probably the most optimum timing we could hope for. This Saturday about 50% of the corn will be combined and the remaining should provide easily walkable cover. I've filled out on the opener for the last ten years or so but all said, there's going to be more consistent, predictable action than ever before! Have a safe weekend and best of luck to all. I'd like to hear how the opener goes this year...I'm thinking it's going to be phenomenal.
wade22
I'm so excited to do some serious wingshooting this weekend. My family's farm is tended by my Pops and features some excellent pheasant cover. He usually leaves some corn rows near his wetlands and that really stimulates activity. I've been shooting pheasants on our famr ever since I could carry a gun and this year promises to be something special. The mild winter combined with the dry spring should make for thick pheasant populations. I'm talking about the best year in about two decades for bird hunting. I went home last weekend for some bowfishing and saw an extraordinary amount of birds. This year's corn harvest is nearing 50% completion which is pretty optimum for hunting cover that will be thinning out as the weekend continues. Best of luck to everyone going wingshooting this weekend and have a safe opener! Post your results, I'm interested to find out how this year bodes. gspman
Yeah baby!!! I'm goin'! I pheasant hunt as much as I can without being threatened with a divorce from the missus. Setterguy, I used to hunt around Blooming Prairie as well. My wife is from there so we had a few contacts but nothing really good to hunt. We usually scrathed a few down and always had a good time down there. Now I hunt around where I grew up. Should be fun but hopefully not too crowded. Good luck too all. Shoot straight and be safe.gspman
Labby
It is going to hurt bad to sit this one out. The hound is pretty sick and I have an appt at the U Friday for him. I just cant see getting out there without him. I live in southren MN near Iowa and there are plenty of birds. I will be on Millac for the full moon bite. Hopefully get good news at the vet tomorrow and salvage the later part of the season. Good luck to everyone and save a few for me later in the year when the hound heals up
