horseradish

Recommended Posts

I haven't, haven't ever grown the stuff but was planning to this season and things just got away from me.  Personally I'm a big fan of a creamy horseradish....I think those only keep for 2-3 weeks though.

My dad, who was staying with us for a couple of days was just grinding this stuff up yesterday, and that what he does with it. They left this morning for AZ, but I will see what he all throws in there and post it for you guys. He has a pretty good patch of the stuff next to his storage garage. It is some powerful stuff, get the nose running from across the room!!

you can never completely get away from the nose running or eye burn but putting lids on things and a towel over the grinder where it comes out sure helps!!!!!!!! and from the wives tales from the elders say it keeps more of the heat and flavor in. I also try to keep the roots out of water as much as possible.

other thing I believe in, once its ground leave it rest awhile, suppose to add more zip to it!!!!!!!!!

So she had the pups Boar?  Congrats.  I have horseradish growing in my horse pasture.  Appropriate place for it I guess. I keep thinking of doing the grind up thing but haven't yet.  That is an early summer thing isn't it?

I was told a month with an R in it!!!!!!!!!!!

well after kinds of problems got it made. not as hot as some years but I gotta admit the garlic gave it a little twist. will definetly do it again!!!!

I am probably to late, but my folks are all settled in down in AZ, and I had a chance to ask my dad what he does with his horseradish. Neither of my parents measure anything, so this is an about recipe.

2 cups of ground root

1tbsp sugar

1tbsp lemon juice

1tbsp white vinegar

approx. 1 cup of miracle whip (start with a little less and add more for your desired consistency)

mix it all together and put it in small jars, obviously it needs to be refrigerated. This make a creamy style horse radish, and with his a little goes a long ways!!
