BLACKJACK
I live 10 miles south of Brooten and I really haven't been seeing or hearing that many pheasants while out duck and deer hunting. I've actually been disapointed. Yesterday morning while duckhunting I only heard one rooster. Guess we'll find out in 10 days. Starting to get pumped!! mistermom
I was over to the fiddlers contest in Terrace with my daughter. Driving between Brooten and Terrace we must have seen at least 30 or more pheasants including one big flock of about 14 birds. There is a lot of nice cover over that way. So the population could be good there and not so good nearby?mm
hunt4food
I am heading towards Morris on the 16th of October. I hope you guys don't shoot them all before I get there. Are there any FM'ers out that way that would be willing to allow myself and my father hunt on your private land? I have never been scolded for asking! I know there is a ton of public areas to hunt, but it's a little more exciting to find some less pressured land to hunt too.
fishlakeman
Can't wait, going to my grandpas farm in Appleton, MN. I have heard that theres birds everywhere. And my grandpa put 80 acres of his 360 into CRP last year. It has made a huge difference!
Dano2
I'll be heading towrds the Morris area as well , is there alot of public land around there? The reason I thought of going there is a guy that I used to work with says thats were he goes but doesn't tell me exactle were.I was out and about today, about 15-20 miles from Downer, years ago, I had a nice little spot were I could duck hunt, then it all dried up, I also would catch a pheasant or two every once in awhile, believe it or not, there used to be some birds around here.I talked to a farmer and he said he has seen some , but the ones he has seen were small and didn't even have much coler yet.Its just me and my dog, so hopeing to find something, guess it just best to fill the pocket book up with gas money and start doing alot of driving and knocking on doors, but i think I'll wait til opener, that way if i see anything or something that looks promising, I can go ask . Scott Steil
BLACKJACK, I have been saying the same thing. Where are all the pheasants? I haven't been hearing them or seeing them. I know I have tons of birds on my land, I just haven't been seeing them or hearing them lately. Must be the weather or something. Normally they are so loud you can hardly sit in the deer stand. I am opening near Lake Henry, then back to Richmond. Should be a good year!!
fisherdog19
I'll be moving to Detroit Lakes next weekend and would like to do some pheasant hunting in MN. Good bird numbers in ND will be to far to drive for a day trip now. What are some good areas with accessible land in the SW MN area, anywhere within 2 hours of DL specifically. Not looking for specifics, just general areas or towns, I'll find land to hunt. Thanks for any feedback.Fisherdog
doubleUcubed
I'd head for the Morris area in general. About 1.5 hours drive from DL and lot's of public land to hunt within a 1/2 hour radius. There will be a lot of hunters out there though! A lot of the Alumni from UMM seem to head back out that way for the usually good pheasant hunting. Good Luck.
